The Strangest Things About Emily Ratajkowski's Marriage

Emily Ratajkowski planted herself on our radars after appearing in the music video for Robin Thicke's 2013 song, "Blurred Lines," featuring Pharrell and T.I. Naturally, she garnered attention for being scantily clad as she danced around to the beat, but, soon enough, she proved her legitimacy as a multi-faceted entertainer when she appeared in the 2014 film Gone Girl and walked the runway at New York Fashion Week.

As one of the most sought-after women in the world, she racked up millions of adoring fans on her social media accounts, but romantic hopefuls soon realized that Ratajkowski was never single for long. After breaking up with fashion maven Andrew Dryden in February 2014, she was linked to musician Jeff Magid by December of that same year. The two appeared to be inseparable up until Jan. 5, 2018, when the New York Daily News reported they had separated and were living apart.

A little over a month later on Feb. 23, 2018, the actress and model married actor and producer Sebastian Bear-McClard in a surprise, fast-tracked wedding at a city hall in New York, ultimately crushing hearts across the globe.

Not much was known about her mystery beau initially, but, once the news of her shocking nuptials was released, Ratajkowski went on a media blitz to divulge all the juicy details about their romance. And, let's just say, their marriage is far from conventional. Here are the strangest things about Emily Ratajkowski's marriage.

With this paperclip, I thee wed

During an interview with The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Ratajowski detailed how Bear-McClard popped the question while they were dining at a New York City restaurant, admitting that she initially rejected his proposal. "He didn't have a ring so I was like, 'Hmm, no,'" she said.

Refusing to take no for an answer, the filmmaker "took the paperclip that the bill was paid with," and whipped it into the shape of a ring. Ratajowski called the moment "really romantic," and voila! They were engaged.

After applying for their marriage license, the couple had 24 hours to kill before they could officially get married. "So we walked into Chinatown and bought like an ounce of gold and he's like, 'We'll melt down the gold to make the rings,'" she told host Jimmy Fallon. "So I was like, 'I just don't see us melting down gold, like, that just seems kind of difficult.'"

In the end, they found a man who helped them hammer out the gold and turn it into their wedding bands. "[Our rings] were supposed to be temporary rings, but now I'm very attached," she said of her new minimalistic jewelry.

Sentimental value aside, it's odd that a successful Hollywood entertainer who can afford a mega-carat dazzler would prefer something a lot less blinged out, no?

The Fat Jewish decoy

When it came time to execute her courthouse wedding, the I Feel Pretty star told Vanity Fair's In the Limelight podcast, "We decided we were going to get married in January and then were kind of waiting for the right moment."

The "right moment" came on Feb, 23, 2018, and, to avoid tipping off the paparazzi during her unforeseen nuptials, Ratajkowski said she avoided wearing a white dress, opting for a pantsuit instead. Her female friends wore suits, as well. "It felt very 'heist movie,'" she told the podcast. "I kept passing the bouquet of flowers to them, like, 'Decoy, decoy!'"

She also had white sweatsuit-clad Instagram personality Josh "The Fat Jewish" Ostrovsky — who's Bear-McClard's high school friend — stand in as a decoy groom. But in the end, all of her elaborate efforts were for naught.

Hours later, she received a text message from her publicist, saying news of her shotgun wedding was about to hit the press. "At the time I was like, 'But I was wearing a hat?!' My publicist was like, 'First of all, it's public record.' I was convinced that everyone thought [The Fat Jewish] was going to get married," she said.

Nice try, Emily. You get an "A" for effort.

They only waited a few weeks

Many of Ratajkowski's fans were up in arms as they assumed the model and actress got hitched to a man she barely even knew. "People came after my marriage, like, 'Wow. I give it three weeks.' I'm like, 'What?'" she told Marie Claire. "No one can take women seriously on any choices that they make, especially if they're unique to them and they don't play into the way we think women should get married."

She had good reason to be ticked off. Although they reportedly dated for a little over a month, the infatuated pair weren't completely unfamiliar with each other. "Emily has known Sebastian for years," a source told Us Weekly.

That's cool and all, but when Bear-McClard's good friend, The Fat Jewish, gave a statement to Page Six, he had this to say: "These two just met and fell [in] love and then just all of the sudden they're just straight up best friends."

So what's the truth? Were they friends for years or did they just meet in 2018 and decide to get married on a whim? Raise your hand if you're as confused as we are.

A dash of mustard for the impure woman

When it came time to pick out her wedding day garb, Ratajkowski made sure to stay far away from tradition. "I never loved the idea of white for a wedding because I'm not a pure woman. I'm a woman with a lot of character and experience and life," she told Vanity Fair's In the Limelight.

Instead, the We Are Your Friends actress opted for a mustard-colored suit that reportedly retailed for just $189. A bride on a budget — we can dig it!

She ultimately decided to wear the pantsuit because "it's like you're taking care of business." Those are her words, not ours.

The brunette beauty also wore a stylish black wide-brimmed hat, complete with an uber-chic black veil to complete her wedding wardrobe. "When you don't have a real wedding, it's for you," she later told Marie Claire magazine about her fashion choice. "I wore what I wanted to wear. It really felt like the outfit that was most me, and that made me feel good."

As untraditional as her attire was, it totally fit her non-conformist attitude.

A FaceTime surprise for mom and dad

Only a few of Ratajowski's friends were invited to her special day, and, after her publicist alerted her that news of her surprise wedding was going to leak to the press, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model knew she had to phone her parents and give them the heads up ahead of time.

"I had to FaceTime my parents [and by then] I had several glasses of champagne. I was like, 'Here we go!'" she told Vanity Fair's In the Limelight.

Hopefully, her parents weren't too peeved about not making the guest list. And if so, they weren't alone. Fellow model Chrissy Teigen jokingly tweeted after hearing the news, "I'm oddly mad I wasn't invited to @emrata's wedding even though we barely speak...like, I like all your photos and leave flames on some."

So, Ratajowski's parents are in good company since they weren't the only ones who were shafted. However, what bride wouldn't want her parents in the mix on her wedding day?

She's forgetful about her relationship status

Considering how Ratajowski's courtship with Bear-McClard went from zero to one hundred real quick, we're not at all surprised that it took the svelte model some time to embrace the title of wifey. During an interview on the Today show six weeks after getting hitched, the Entourage star proudly proclaimed, "I'm still messing up, sometimes I say girlfriend instead of wife."

She also revealed that she frequently referred to Bear-McClard as her boyfriend after saying "I do," and she would have to correct herself so that people were absolutely clear that she was officially off the market.

Even though she's still getting used to being a wife, the buxom brunette went on to describe married life as "nice."

"Everyone knows that you love that person so much, which is really special," she said.

Considering they got married on a whim, we'll give her some time to get their titles straight.

He was caught with Suki Waterhouse ... oh, and he was ringless too

After marrying one of the hottest women in showbiz, Bear-McClard did the unthinkable by ditching his gold wedding band and hitting the town with model and actress Suki Waterhouse. The Daily Mail spotted the two getting chummy in New York City in late April 2018, and Ratajkowski was nowhere in sight.

Granted, they were dressed in fitness gear and appeared to have just finished a workout session, so that might explain why Bear-McClard went ringless. But after laughing, joking around, and gazing at something interesting on Waterhouse's cell phone screen, the two hopped into the backseat of a car together and drove off into the sunset. Ruh-roh.

It's possible that they're just friends, especially since Bear-McClard seems to have a lot of buddies in the industry, including Twilight star Robert Pattinson. However, the fact that he ditched his ring so soon after tying the knot has us scratching our heads in bewilderment.

Their relationship is full of blurred lines

The Entourage actress was previously in a long-term relationship with producer and musician Jeff Magid (pictured), and the former couple decided to take their relationship to the next level by shacking up. "They were living together at his downtown L.A. apartment in the trendy Arts District," an insider told NY Daily News.

However, things didn't work out, and she reportedly moved out of the apartment in January 2018. "Jeff is an incredibly successful music producer and is working around the country," the source said. "Emily too is seeing her career boom, so their business success did not help them spend much time together."

By the time Valentine's Day 2018 rolled around — which was a little over a month later — she was photographed getting all cutesy wootsy with Bear-McClard in Los Feliz, Calif., and of course, their wedding occurred shortly thereafter.

"Jeff never saw this coming," a source told Hollywood Life about Magid's reaction to Ratajkowski's beeline to the altar. "He knew Emily was dating Sebastian, but he never in a million years expected her to marry him like this. Jeff and Emily only broke up a couple of months ago so no one saw this coming."

Since she never formally announced she was over Magid, and her romance with Bear-McClard happened so quickly after their breakup, it makes us wonder if maybe there was some overlap going on between the two relationships. Could Bear-McClard be a rebound?

She gets racy for him

As far as T.M.I. goes, it doesn't exist within Emily Ratajkowski's marriage. Even though she kept Bear-McClard relatively hidden from the public eye up until sharing their wedding news on social media, the cats now out of the bag, and she's feeling much more comfortable about professing her love — no matter how much her public displays of affection make us cringe.

A month after her wedding, Ratajkowski bared it all in the name of love and put her perfect silhouette on display in a series of nude Instagram photos. In one photo, while wearing nothing but a straw hat, her chest is shielded by her arms and her body is angled in a way to keep all of her lovely lady lumps concealed. The caption on the picture reads, "Posing for my husband like." A second photo shows the stunning model all splayed out on a pool bed while wearing nothing but her birthday suit.

Those pictures were a rather strange one-month anniversary gift. We just hope Bear-McClard is A-okay with the world peering at his wife's bangin' bod.

They're spending millions together

Those who thought the pair wouldn't make it past the three-week mark were quickly proven wrong. Emily Ratajkowski and her husband not only surpassed two months of wedded bliss, but they also dropped $2 million on a home in the "hipster neighborhood" of Echo Park, Calif. just before their three-month anniversary. Take that, haters!

The luxury pad, complete with three bedrooms and three baths, is situated behind a gate to keep the pesky paparazzi at bay. And it features a separate cottage, which makes for the perfect guesthouse for The Fat Jewish or her I Feel Pretty co-star, Amy Schumer, to crash in after a night out on the town. And there's even a picturesque, private outdoor area where Ratajkowski can frolic and take more racy photos for her beau when she's feeling frisky.

Such a major purchase is proof that these two are in it for the long-haul, but is she jumping the gun by making such a grand joint-purchase so soon? Oh, who are we kidding? This is Ratajkowski we're talking about! When has she ever done anything by the book? Nevuh!
