The Truth Behind Taylor Swift & Tom Hiddleston's Secret Romance
That was quick! About two weeks after announcing her split from Scottish DJ Calvin Harris, songstress Taylor Swift has very visibly moved on with Avengers star Tom Hiddleston.
British tabloid The Sun published photos on June 15, 2016 showing the pair kissing and taking selfies on some rocks near the water in Rhode Island. "They were all over each other—hugging and kissing—even though there were 20 people coming and going on the beach," a source said. "They looked like any young couple madly in love without a care in the world."
The celeb world most definitely cares about this rapid rebound.
She may have gone behind Harris' back
Swift was co-chair of the 2016 Met Gala in May, which is a really big deal, but she went to the party stag. Though Page Six reports they were still together at the time, Harris reportedly doesn't care much for red carpets. At a gala after-party, Swift was spotted dancing with Hiddleston. Coincidence?
Probably not. A source told E! News that Swift "felt rejected by Calvin," adding, "She wanted to feel special again. She likes Tom a lot and is excited about being with him."
Though Page Six said Harris had been engagement ring shopping, the power couple went kaput soon after the gala.
Harris isn't happy about it
"Calvin was very suspicious that Taylor was cheating during their relationship. He just didn't know with whom," a source told E! Online. "He feels like these pictures confirm his suspicions, and it changes everything. He is so angry and feels betrayed. He is convinced that Taylor was cheating with Tom while they were still together."
A source told The Sun, "The timing of this looks very bad for Taylor. There was an obvious connection with Tom at the Met Gala—you can see that in the video of them dancing together. Her people are insistent that no one else was involved in the split with Calvin, which is most likely the case," the source said, "but it feels pretty disrespectful to be moving on to someone so public so quickly."
Harris doesn't seem to be taking the news very well: He deleted all his photos with Swift from Instagram, as well as his tweet from their breakup promising that the split was full of "love and respect." He also tweeted, then promptly deleted, "It's about to go down."
As far as exes go, E! News reports that they are not so amicable at the moment. A source dished, "They had hoped to be friendly, but Calvin wants nothing to do with her now."
She approached Hiddleston first
Hiddleston told the Press Association that Swift made the first move at the Met Gala, not vice versa. She reportedly convinced him to shake his stuff. "I haven't actually danced for a long time, but I happened to be dancing at the Met Gala because it was a party," he said. "I was on a table with Taylor Swift and The Weeknd was playing, and she said, 'The thing about these parties is nobody gets up to dance,' and you're making music. She, as a musician, was like, 'We've got to dance for The Weeknd,' so we got up and danced."
As for that viral video? "I didn't know it was going to ping round the world, but it's all good," he said.
Hiddleston courted her
The star of I Saw the Light was quite captivated by Swift's glow at the gala, telling MTV UK, "I sat next to her at dinner that night and she was very charming. She is amazing. I've seen a couple of her videos." Ever the gentleman, Hiddleston reportedly swept Swift off her feet with sweet gestures. A source told Reveal magazine (via the Daily Mail), "Tom has had the hots for Taylor since the Met Gala. When he learned she was single, he texted her loads and even sent her flowers. It was so charming and really put a smile on her face."
Swift is probably enjoying the publicity
Hiddleston has kept his personal life rather private: He is reported to have dated I Saw The Light (2015) co-star Elizabeth Olsen, though he denied the rumors. He was also linked to Crimson Peak (2013) co-star Jessica Chastain in 2013, even attending her birthday party, but both parties shook off those stories. His longest relationship was with co-star Susannah Fielding from 2011 to 2013. They met on the set of the BBC series Wallander. Hiddleston was rarely photographed with any of these ladies and is rarely seen in the public eye unless he's on the red carpet to promote a movie.
Swift, however, is frequently photographed and even rumored to call paparazzi herself. How else would photographers get such clear, perfectly posed shots on a private beach in Rhode Island? The Daily Beast notes that the now-infamous beach photos are par for the course for Swift, who did the same with exes Harris and Jake Gyllenhaal. Additionally, some fans speculated that Swift wanted to get away from her new grunge image and needed some help from her PR team to do it...in the form of Hiddleston. His star is on the rise thanks to the Marvel franchise and his potential to become the next James Bond.
It's not that serious...yet
A source told E! News, "Taylor is hanging out with Tom. Nothing serious is going on but she is talking to him." (She's also swapping spit with him, as we've all seen. Just sayin'.) "They have been out a few times she really enjoys his company," the source said. "She is not looking to jump into anything this fast, but will take things as it goes nice and slowly." And with plenty of photographic evidence.
