She's critical of Jolie's adoptions
Handler's dislike for Jolie dates back to at least 2007, when the outspoken comic slammed the Oscar-winning actress and human rights activist on a Comedy Central special. The butt of her joke was Jolie's adopted son, Maddox. Handler said (via Us Weekly), "He's so pissed off because he probably thought he was, like, scoring the biggest deal of his lifetime, getting adopted by this famous movie star who was gonna rescue him from his third-world Cambodia, only to find out she's gonna take him to every other third-world country in the world. He's probably like, 'When the f**k are we getting to Malibu like you promised?'"
In a 2011 rant during a stand-up routine (via Hollywood Life), Handler made her loathsome feelings about Jolie's international humanitarian work crystal clear. "She can rescue as many babies from as many countries as she wants to," she said." I don't f**king believe [her]."
Handler also lashed out at Jolie's multiethnic and multiracial family during the 2014 Oscars with a series of off-the-wall comments about diversity at the awards show. Handler tweeted (via the Daily Mail): "#AngelinaJolie just filed adoption papers #lupitanyongo #Oscar," referring to the woman who won best supporting actress for 12 Years a Slave. Handler followed that up with another controversial tweet: "#AngelinaJolie's adoption went through #sidneypoitier #Oscars." Sidney Poitier became the first black man to win a best actor Oscar in 1964. He appeared with Jolie at the 2014 award show to present the award for best director.
She doesn't think Jolie is a cool mom
On a 2010 episode of her late show, Chelsea Lately, she blasted Jolie for not being a "cool mom." Pulling out a copy of Us Weekly, Handler quipped (via Access Hollywood) "...it talks about how she's so fun with her kids—all 18 of them."
Handler mocked Jolie's parenting methods and outlined precisely why she doesn't think the globe-trotting mum is much fun. "Exhibit A, she recently punked Maddox on the set of Salt," Handler said, reading a quote from Jolie: "'He's fascinated by the military, so I put on a NATO uniform and said, 'Someone tell Mad there's an officer here who wants to say hi.'" Handler's sarcastic assessment: "What a fun mom! You are so fun, kitty cat. You go, girl!"
She considers Jolie an enemy to women
Handler criticized Jolie for undermining her fellow females during a 2011 stand-up routine (via Hollywood Life). According to Handler, Jolie doesn't have a lot of female friends because she's a "f**king c**t!" and a "f**king b***h." She later told Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live! (via E! News), "I don't think [Jolie is] a girl's girl. I like girl's girls!"
Handler also referred to the actress as a "home wrecker," alluding to Jolie's budding affections for co-star Brad Pitt on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005). When filming the movie, Pitt was still married to Handler's gal pal, Jennifer Aniston.
Handler has received a ton of flak on social media for her attacks on Jolie, but she has never backed down. "I have been making fun of [Jolie] for years. Period," she tweeted. When asked if she thought she was being "unfairly harsh" toward the actress, Handler told Grazia, "No. I'm just saying what everyone else is thinking."
She thinks Jolie gives off bad vibes
When Katie Couric asked Handler why she hated Jolie in a 2010 issue of Glamour, the comic said, "She just doesn't come off to me as a sincere woman. She seems like a woman that you'd really want to avoid." Years later, on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live! (via E! News), Handler took it up a notch. "[Jolie] seems like a demon. It has nothing to do with [Aniston]. As a woman, I know when you see somebody walking across the room that's a bad girl."
She had a problem with Jolie's marriage from the start
When discussing the epic Brangelina split, Handler said on her show, "[Pitt] and [Angelina] always said they wouldn't get married until everyone could get married," referring to LGBT rights. "I always said I wouldn't get married until they got divorced, so I'm officially accepting proposals."
She also waxed poetic about the potential reasons behind their breakup, including Pitt's alleged problems with drinking and smoking weed. "I wonder why [Pitt] would need to self-medicate," Handler mused. "Maybe because he could have been spending the last 12 years at Lake Como hanging out with George Clooney and Matt Damon instead of being stuck in a house with 85 kids speaking 15 different languages." She went on, "Oh yeah, because he married a f***ing lunatic, that's why."
To honor the power couple's request for privacy, Handler said she would no longer speak about the divorce on TV. "You can follow me on Twitter," she quipped, where the jokes kept on flowing.
Is she burying the hatchet?
Handler has admitted that it may be time to take her shtick in a new direction. "I've been making fun of Angelina Jolie since she made out with her brother," she said on Chelsea Lately (via E! Online). Her guest, comedian Josh Wolfe, responded, "That should tell you that you should get some new material. Maybe it's time for a new joke."
"It's true," Handler agreed. "If I've learned nothing from this, it's to write some new jokes." Only time will tell if that sentiment sticks.
