Inside Suri Cruise's life away from Tom Cruise

If you're looking for something to make you feel old today, here it is — Suri Cruise is 11 years old. Back in 2005, it seemed virtually impossible to avoid the news that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes had met, fallen in love, and then created a human. In 2012, Holmes divorced Cruise, and 6-year-old Suri moved to New York City with her mom — though they eventually returned to Los Angeles in 2014.)

Cruise has apparently not seen Suri in three years, according to Page Six, possibly due to the fact that Holmes is no longer a Scientologist and therefore may be considered dangerous.

Holmes appeared on the February 2017 cover of Town and Country, and in the accompanying interview, she declared her intention to ensure that Suri, who until recently has not made an appearance on Holmes' Instagram account, has "a stable, innocent childhood."

So what's Suri's life like now that she's theoretically a regular kid? Here's a peek.

She's a California girl again...sometimes

While Holmes extolled the joys of raising her daughter in New York City, the actress purchased a home in Calabasas, California in 2014, relocating back to the West Coast after living full time in New York City since 2012. The move supposedly happened so Holmes could more intensely focus on her acting career, but some sources say that Holmes decided California was a better environment for her daughter to grow up in. It's not totally clear if they're on the West Coast for keeps, though, since in 2015, Holmes reportedly began renting a $25,000 per month penthouse in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. The two were spotted taking in an evening of theater in the city in July 2016,and Holmes continues to post shots from New York City on Instagram, so maybe Suri is living the bicoastal life.

She attends elite private schools

Cruise was a student at The Avenues, a private K-12 school located in New York's Chelsea neighborhood. She attended the school, which comes with a price tag of $45,350 a year, beginning in 2012. The Avenues boasts cutting edge technology, and faculty who have taught at other gateways to the Ivy League, including Phillips Exeter and Dalton. The Avenues requires each student to become proficient in a foreign language, with immersion beginning in nursery school, and emphasizing study abroad. The school opened a branch in London in 2016, and the city's elite is undoubtedly clamoring for spots.

Cruise's attendance at the school initially worried parents, what with the constant media presence, but now that Cruise is back on the West Coast, things have likely returned to normal. Cruise was spotted wearing a school uniform while out with her mom in October 2016, so she's undoubtedly attending another fancy private school around Los Angeles.

She hangs out with her friends

Instead of keeping Suri at home while not in school to dodge the perpetually roaming eye of the press, Holmes has made sure her daughter gets out into the world. In 2016, Holmes took Suri and her friends to see the Broadway musicals Cats, School of Rock and Kinky Boots. It might sound like these were totally average outings, but designer Zac Posen accompanied the girls on more than one occasion, and Suri and her friends met Cats actor Leona Lewis, as well as the cast of cast of School of Rock, and also tried on Kinky Boots cast member Jennifer Perry's boots after the show. So yeah, a normal day out with your friend and her mom.

She visits her mom's hometown

Holmes, the youngest of five siblings, was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, and reportedly visited her family numerous times while married to Cruise, although often these reunions occurred at the actor's Telluride, Colorado home, also the location of Holmes' and Cruise's famed Vanity Fair photo shoot. Cruise has protested allegations that he kept his wife and daughter from having contact with her family, since they are practicing Catholics, and not Scientologists.

Since her divorce, Holmes has brought Suri to Ohio several times, most recently on Thanksgiving of 2016, when the Holmes family made a visit to Toledo's Dave and Buster's for a video game adventure. Mid-divorce in 2012, Holmes took Suri to the local mall, and on one ill-fated trip to a park in Toledo in 2013, Suri suffered a broken arm while cartwheeling down a hill.

She has serious birthdays

Suri turned 10 on April 18, 2016, and Holmes marked the occasion with more than one celebration, including a sophisticated lunch at New York City's Tavern on the Green with her friends and Holmes' parents, followed by a foray into Central Park. Suri, 50 of her closest friends and their parents also partied at Dave and Buster's with Georgetown Cupcakes, which have apparently made an appearance at more than one of her birthdays.

On her actual birthday, which fell on a Monday, Suri and Holmes decided to go low-key when they dropped by a Crocs store to support a children's cancer charity with which Holmes works.

For Suri's 11th birthday, her mom went all out again, with three birthday cakes, balloons galore, and adventures on the beaches of Florida with her family and friends.

She goes to awards shows

Because if you have connections, why not work them? In 2015, Holmes took her daughter to the 28th Annual Kids' Choice Awards, where Suri got to throw around a bunch of confetti, and also hang out with David and Victoria Beckhams' brood, the Jolie-Pitt clan, as well as Nick Jonas and Jamie Foxx, who Holmes is reportedly dating.

She's into roller coasters

Although Holmes has relocated back to the West Coast, she still seems undeterred by the press and continues in her efforts to give her daughter a shot at being something like normal. In February 2017, Holmes' nephews visited California and the family hit the legendary Pacific Plunge roller coaster. This ride is no joke — it takes you nine stories and 150 feet in the air before heading back towards the ground at a serious speed. Holmes' Instagram documented the trip, during which Suri is all smiles. It's not the first time Suri has indulged her possible adrenaline addiction; she and her mom were seen tackling Thunder Mountain at Disneyland in 2015.

She goes to the salon

Holmes knows beauty and style — she's been dressed by designer Zac Posen, been the face of Miu Miu, Ann Taylor, and Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, and started her own clothing line with stylist Jeanne Yang. A day at the salon with her daughter is hardly going be ordinary. The two visited Serge Normant's salon in April to get (more) beautified, and on Holmes' Instagram, Suri can be seen attaching classic bows to her hair that's probably newly washed and cut, as one does when they're not totally sure they like what someone has done to their hair and wants it to go back to the way it was. Suri does what she wants, folks, even if her mom just dropped a ton of money on a fancy haircut.

She's political

Holmes isn't afraid to get political on social media; you can find quotes about feminism from Maya Angelou and Gloria Steinem on her Instagram, along with Martin Luther King and Toni Morrison. There are also numerous pictures of Hillary Clinton, whom Holmes met with Suri at a fundraiser for Clinton's presidential campaign in December 2015, along with Chelsea Clinton. Suri watched the presidential debates with her mom, and Holmes hoped it would have an impact on her. "It's wonderful to have my 10-year-old see a woman up there doing well and being very clear and thoughtful in her responses and in her passion for what she wants to do for our country," said Holmes to People in October 2016. That's so powerful for a 10-year-old girl to see." Clinton's loss was personal for Holmes, and also for Suri, which she told Jenna Bush Hager in March 2017. "I know that it hurt my child so much as a 10-year-old, and it really made me think, 'Oh we have… a long way to go as women.'"

She visits her mom on set

Suri definitely enjoys the perks of having a famous mom when she visits Holmes on set. While Holmes was filming and directing an episode of The Kennedys: After Camelot, Suri stopped by to get the royal treatment from hair and makeup, and to sit in her own director's chair, which her mom had made for her. According to Holmes' co-star Kristin Booth, Suri's definitely not one of those nightmare kids of celebrities. "I love when she would come into the trailer," said Booth. Most recently, when Holmes appeared on Good Morning America, Suri hung out backstage with a kangaroo, brought by animal activist and fellow guest of the show Jack Hanna.
