Did Fifth Harmony Shade Camila Cabello At The 2017 VMAs?

Doesn't look like Camila Cabello left things in a good place with her former group Fifth Harmony.

At the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, Fifth Harmony took the stage to perform a medley of their songs "Angel" and "Down." But before they started singing, Normani Kordei, Ally Brooke Hernandez, Lauren Jauregui, and Dinah Jane Hansen appeared on a platform, wearing puffy silver jackets—and there was a fifth member among them. However, that fifth person didn't remain on stage for too long. Within seconds, she jumped backwards off of the platform, making it look as though she were falling.

And then the performance went on, without a single mention of the fifth person on that platform.

But, of course, many fans have speculated that the jumper was meant to represent former bandmate Cabello, who left the group to pursue a solo career in December 2016.

One fan wrote, "YOOOO FAKE CAMILA FLEW OFF THE STAGE AND MY JAW DROPPED."

Another tweeted out, "It ain't even shady because that's what happened! She left, she jumped off the ship. They were just introducing the new Fifth Harmony."

In the months since Cabello's departure, Fifth Harmony seems to have already moved on—on Aug. 25, the now-quartet released their third studio album, Fifth Harmony. However, in interviews with the girls prior to the record's debut, it seems clear that there was some animosity between the remaining members and Cabello. As Nicki Swift previously reported, Fifth Harmony said that they were in a "better place" since Cabello separated from the group.

So was their performance shade or just storytelling? We'll let the pop stars decide.
