Sam Smith Releases First Single In Two Years, 'Too Good At Goodbyes'

Pop music fans! The wait for new music from Sam Smith is officially over.

Following new releases from fellow artists Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Kelly Clarkson, the British musician is back with "Too Good at Goodbyes." It is his first single since 2015's "Writing's on the Wall," the Academy Award-winning theme song from the James Bond film Spectre.

"This song is about a relationship I was in and it's basically about getting good at getting dumped," Smith said in a statement (via E! News). "It's been a long while since I've put any music out and I feel that this first single sets the tone of what is to come."

When the ballad dropped at midnight EST on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, the soulful singer couldn't contain his excitement. "'Too Good At Goodbyes' is finally here gorgeous people!!" he tweeted. It reached number one on UK iTunes within hours.

Smith also graciously acknowledged his co-writers. "Massive shout out to @jimmynapes & @stargate," the 25-year-old tweeted. "Writing this song with you all under the dreary London smog was truly an honour xx love you."

As Nicki Swift previously reported, the "I'm Not the Only One" hitmaker took to Instagram on Aug. 31 to tease the follow-up to his 2014 debut In the Lonely Hour, which won four Grammys. "To my beautiful fans...thank you for being so patient and for letting me have the past year to really escape into my mind & write music so freely," the "Stay With Me" crooner wrote, following a two-year hiatus. "The wait is so nearly over....I am scared and excited at the same time. I've poured my soul and heart into this record."

Dying to hear more from Smith? According to Beats 1, his sophomore effort is expected to drop before Christmas! And as E! News reported, the singer will hit the road in mid-September with a mini-tour, stopping in Los Angeles (Sept. 11), New York City (Sept. 13), London (Sept. 15), and Berlin (Sept. 18). Venues have yet to be announced.
