Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's Daughter Named First-Ever Golden Globe Ambassador

The Fate of the Furious star's daughter is making history—and she's only 16 years old!

According to ABC News, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's child, Simone Garcia Johnson, would be the first-ever Golden Globe Ambassador, ahead of the January 2018 event. As such, she'll work with GlobalGirl Media, an organization that seeks to develop the "voice and media literacy of teenage girls and young women" in disadvantaged areas.

The Golden Globe Ambassador title replaces the previous role of Mr. or Miss Golden Globe. As part of the role, Garcia Johnson will assist in handing out awards to the night's winners, ushering them onto and off of the stage.

A statement from HFPA president Meher Tatna read, "As we look forward to the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association members decided to expand this role to embody the HFPA's philanthropic efforts year round," adding, "The honoree will now be referred to as the Golden Globe ambassador and we could not think of a better representative than Simone to carry on this tradition, as her values closely reflect everything the HFPA stands for."

Regarding her new gig, Garcia Johnson said, "As the newly minted Golden Globe ambassador, I hope to serve as a role model to young people everywhere and empower them to speak out on issues they are passionate about."

On social media, the teenager added, "Finding words to describe exactly how i feel right now is a bit hard... I feel so blessed to be a part of this incredible journey and be known as the first Golden Globe Ambassador."

And, of course, Johnson is a proud father. The actor addressed his daughter's big news on Instagram, writing, "We're extremely proud and thankful for this moment. Congratulations to our daughter @simonegjohnson on being selected as the very first #GoldenGlobes AMBASSADOR. Thank you to our friends and colleagues of the #HFPA for recognizing her value and voice. An amazing and cool honor to rep our community and the #Globes75."

The 75th annual Golden Globe Awards will air live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018.

As Variety noted, previous Mr. and Miss Golden Globe honorees have included the children of Sylvester Stallone, Jamie Foxx, Kelsey Grammer, Clint Eastwood, and Michael J. Fox.

While we wait for the big awards show, take a look back on all of the craziest moments of the 2017 Golden Globes.

WWE haters keep coming after Ava Raine

Ava Raine may be relatively new to the world of professional wrestling, but she's already had to contend with a long list of haters. In addition to enduring a barrage of mockery over her chosen WWE name, Ava Raine has also been hit with heavy criticism over her actions in the ring. During the May 2023 NXT Tag Team Championship, for example, Raine was attacked by Ivy Nile, who knocked her to the ground before throwing a number of punches and eventually being carried off. The Rock's daughter fought back, but viewers weren't impressed with her acting skills and took to social media to ridicule her performance. "Ava is a terrible wrestler," wrote one hater, according to Essentially Sports. Another slammed, "The talent on the Rock's side must've slipped a generation." Reposting clips of the moment to her own social media, Raine poked fun at Nile's 'surprise' attack and tweeted, "But when I screamed for her to come fight me she ran away. Make it make sense."

However, she's also received her share of support. Ahead of the tag team event, WWE tweeted that she played a vital role in getting her team there. Fans also came to her defense in a Reddit thread titled "The Rock's daughter Ava Raine is not ready for Main roster." In it, many noted she's still young and learning. "The Rock wasn't ready when he debuted either," noted one supporter. "Just give it time."

Wrestling changed her relationship with her dad

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is one supportive papa. The actor has repeatedly gushed about how proud he is of his eldest daughter, Simone Jonhson, and everything she's accomplished. Indeed, the budding pro wrestler told People in 2017, Dwayne is an incredible dad. "He's really such an amazing role model to me and I couldn't have asked for a better father," she gushed. "I love my dad and I'm so proud of everything that he's done."

However, reaching the level of success Dwayne has meant he had to give up a lot of precious family time. As he admitted on "The Pivot" podcast in May 2023, he wasn't always the best dad and he wasn't always present in Simone's life as much as he should have been. "I had her when I was young, in my 20s, and as dudes, we're still trying to find ourselves in our 20s, in our 30s," he mused, admitting, "When I had Simone, I was flying by the seat of my pants." Recalling how he was wrestling full-time while also acting more and more, he recalled, "I was always gone, but we tried to keep it together." Now that he's older and they've got a shared career, that's all changed. "As she becomes a pro wrestler, it's actually brought us closer together," he shared.
