What Life Is Like For Anna Delvey Today
If you don't already know who Anna Delvey (born Anna Sorokin) is, you'll learn from "Generation Hustle," the new crime docuseries from HBO Max telling the story of how different people "swindled friends and strangers out of thousands," according to Decider. Sorokin claimed she was a German-born heiress and infiltrated into the upper echelon of New York society. She wanted to create a multi-million art foundation and pushed colleagues to invest in her idea. Sorokin also hired firms to create the foundation, but it is still unknown if it ever came to fruition.
She created quite the facade, telling Good Morning America in March 2021 she filed illegitimate financial documents with a bank and tried to get a $22 million loan for her big idea. "The idea would be for this business to work and I would just repay everything," she said. "Even the richest of people always take out loans. I was just trying to get a cheap loan."
Sorokin spent almost four years in jail for grand larceny, theft of services and attempted grand larceny, and spent 19 months at Rikers Island, per the New York Post. She finished her sentence at a state prison and was released in February 2021, according to a separate report from the New York Post. Keep reading to see what she's up to today.
Anna Delvey found Rikers Island "therapeutic"
Anna Delvey (née Sorokin) spent over a year at Rikers Island for scamming close to $200,000 from banks and claiming she was a German heiress with 60 million euros to her name, according to the New York Post. One would think jail is bleak, but Sorokin found it the opposite, calling it "therapeutic."
"I, for example, used the time to read a lot and to write," she said in a March 2021 interview with Good Morning America. The 30-year-old appears to regret what she did, saying, "I was young. I would not repeat my actions. I'm just trying to make the best out of my situation."
Sorokin does not seem to be hurting for money — Netflix paid her approximately $320,000 for the rights to her life story and as a consultant on a show about her dirty deeds produced by Shonda Rhimes, per the New York Post. And that's not all; HBO is reportedly planning a series about her from Lena Dunham, according to Decider.
After she paid $198,000 in restitution, Sorokin was left with the remaining funds and seemed to be enjoying life after prison. According to her Instagram, she's been spotted shopping at Sephora and relaxing in her New York City apartment.
