The One Tattoo Ariana Grande Wishes She Didn't Get
Ariana Grande is a woman of many talents — and tattoos. The "God Is A Woman" singer has always made a statement through her fashion, and other times, her body art. Just like her signature high ponytail, she sports some iconic body ink adored by fans.
According to Elle, Grande's tattoo collection attracts thousands of internet searches globally, underscoring the fact that her fans love her ink. While the star doesn't have elaborate tattoo sleeves or massive pieces, she has enough to keep things interesting. Page Six notes that she has over 40 tattoos in total, ranging from "Harry Potter" references to song lyrics to tributes to her dog. She even has matching tattoos with her ex-boyfriends (more on that later) and her crew.
With an ever-expanding collection of body ink, Grande will likely keep adding beautiful pieces to her body over time. Still, this doesn't mean that she doesn't have some designs that she regrets.
Ariana Grande was mocked for having a misspelled tattoo
Everyone who sports multiple tattoos probably has one or two pieces that they regret. In Ariana Grande's case, one of her tattoos had been under intense criticism from pretty much the entire internet. In January 2019, just after the release of her song, "7 Rings," the singer paid tribute to the song by way of tattoo. She debuted the brand new ink via a now-deleted Instagram post and explained that the tattoo meant "7 Rings" in Japanese Kanji characters.
But fans were quick to point out that the tattoo meant something else. Twitter user @hey__amo explained that the symbols translated to "shichirin," which apparently means Japanese-style BBQ grill. Grande responded to the tweet, saying that she had to leave off some characters because the tattoo "hurt like f**k" and that she "wouldn't have lasted another symbol."
"Indeed, i left out "つの指" which should have gone in between," she said in a now-deleted tweet, via Vanity Fair. "it hurt like f**k n still looks tight. i wouldn't have lasted one more symbol lmao. but this spot also peels a ton and won't last so if i miss it enough, i'll suffer thru the whole thing next time."
In another now-deleted tweet, Grande said that she went back and had it fixed so the piece would be more accurate. "[I] got it fixed with the help of my tutor to be more accurate. I can't read or write kanji obviously," she said.
Ariana Grande is no stranger to covering up tattoos
Ariana Grande's misspelled tattoo is a lesson learned for the singer, but it wasn't the only piece of body art she wound up regretting. Grande dated Pete Davidson of "Saturday Night Live" and BDE fame, and over the course of their highly-publicized whirlwind romance, the two got a number of matching tattoos.
The former couple had a couple of similar inks, as well as some pieces that were dedicated to each other. Davidson got a bunny tattoo from Grande's "Dangerous Woman" album cover, while Grande got Davidson's late father's FDNY badge number inked on her foot. They also had matching cloud tattoos and inks that read "H2GKMO" and "REBORN."
Not one to dwell on the past, Grande had the tattoo on her foot altered post-breakup with a tribute to the dog she shared with her ex-boyfriend, the late Mac Miller, per Allure.
Ariana Grande has had her fair share of tattoos she regrets, but at least she has no problem saying "Thank U, Next" to them.
