Alec Baldwin Faces A Serious Charge After Rust Movie Shooting
By KAITLYN CARRERA
In October 2021, Alec Baldwin was at the center of a tragic incident while filming “Rust,” when he fired a revolver with a live round that struck director Joel Souza and cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Hutchins later died from her wounds, and while Baldwin denies culpability, a New Mexico prosecutor has officially decided to move forward with charges.
First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies has decided to charge Baldwin and “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed with involuntary manslaughter. Carmack-Altwies says the charges reflect “her commitment to pursue justice for all victims,” and were informed by an investigation involving phone records and forensic analysis of the weapon.
Carmack-Altweis said she would oversee a “thorough review of the information and evidence,” and while Baldwin pulled the trigger, the investigation revealed that Gutierrez Reed was the one who loaded the gun with live rounds. For his role in the shooting, “Rust” props assistant Dave Halls plans to plead guilty to negligent use of a deadly weapon.
