Kathy Griffin explained that her bad blood with DeGeneres is rooted in the latter's relationship with the late Joan Rivers: “I'd be like, 'Where are you with Ellen?' and [Joan would] be like, 'Ugh, still hates me!” [...] I'm sticking up for a pal [...] I wish [female comics] were better at supporting each other.”

NBC's “First Dates” was executive produced by Ellen and narrated by Drew Barrymore, but the relationship between the show's duo was rocky. “Ellen and Drew are a case of oil and water,” a source alleged. “Ellen expected to be the one calling the shots, but Drew thinks she should have creative control”.

Michael Strahan abruptly left “Live! with Kelly and Michael” in 2016, and when DeGeneres invited Strahan on her show, co-host Kelly Ripa was none too pleased. According to Star, "Cozying up with Michael was like telling the world she had taken his side and was taunting Kelly.”

During an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, Caitlyn Jenner was asked about same-sex marriage and admitted, “At first, I was not for it.” Following that, DeGeneres accused Jenner of passing “judgment against gay people and marriage” during an interview with Howard Stern.

In 2017, DeGeneres tweeted a happy birthday note to Katy Perry — saying “It's time to bring out the big balloons!” — along with a snap of herself gawking at the pop star's breasts. TV journalist Piers Morgan tweeted, “If a man made this joke, Ellen would lead the cries of ‘SEXIST PIG!’”
