CHARLES' OFFICIAL NEW TITLE IS FINALLY CLEAR
By CALLIE MCGUIRE
The BBC reports that at the moment of Queen Elizabeth II's death, the British throne immediately passed to its heir, her son Charles. The new monarch will reign as King Charles III, according to Variety, and the royal family's Twitter account released a statement from His Majesty The King.
In his statement, King Charles wrote, "My family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held." Reuters reports that the 73-year-old king is the oldest monarch to take the throne, and Charles will likely face many challenges as ruler.
King Charles III's wife Camilla is a polarizing figure, due to the affair she had with Charles while he was still married to Princess Diana. The new king will also reckon with Prince William and Prince Harry's alleged feud; Charles has yet to resolve the tension between the two princes following Harry's departure from the royal family.
