CHRIS ROCK HAD A TENSE EXCHANGE WITH DAVID LETTERMAN ON HIS TALK SHOW
By ALEX ANAGNOSON
Like many comedians, Chris Rock is unafraid to speak his mind and tends to press talk show hosts' buttons as much as they press his; meanwhile, David Letterman is known for pushing the envelope and being rather confrontational with celebrity guests. When these two stars collide on "Late Show with David Letterman," it leads to some tense exchanges.
During a 2011 appearance on the show, Rock continually referred to Letterman as "Dave," causing the host to remark, "It was like somebody got ahold of Chris Rock [...] and said, 'Whatever you do, remember, his name is Dave!'" Rock also joked that Letterman may have bored his son to death, saying "You still got that boy? 'Cause you bore easy."
Also, in his "Late Show" appearance a year prior, Rock poked fun at Letterman's gravelly voice, a result of being sick, as well as his cheating scandals. "Ah, wife's still mad at you, ain't she?" Rock said, implying Letterman wanted to escape her. "Why am I going to drive back to Connecticut to a mean woman? I might as well just stay here and do the show with no voice!"
