Johnny Depp's libel suit surrounding his relationship with ex-wife Amber Heard is getting all sorts of messy, again. Depp's former agent is now making a claim that, if proven true, could support one of Depp's allegations: that Heard's accusations of his domestic abuse have negatively impacted his career.
In his April 27, 2022 testimony, Christian Carino said he felt that Depp was not asked to return to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise because of Heard's accusations. Though Carino previously admitted he had only spoken with "Pirates" executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer, he added, "It is something within the industry that is understood."
Heard's co-lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, pointed out that Bruckheimer never said specifically that Heard's allegations caused Depp to be fired. Heard's other attorney, Ben Rottenborn, also referenced an article reporting Depp's exit from the franchise, printed two months before Heard's original domestic abuse op-ed.
Depp himself also admitted on the stand that even "$300 million" or more would not entice him back to the "Pirates" franchise. Lawyers are now trying to prove how the various testimonies fit into the timeline; Depp's infamous release from the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise will likely be mentioned, too.
