HALSEY HAS STRONG WORDS FOR RECORD LABEL AMID BATTLE OVER NEW SINGLE
By KATHLEEN WALSH
Fans have been waiting for more Halsey music for what seems like forever, but don't put the blame on the singer; rather, look at their record label. Halsey announced on TikTok that they have a new single ready to release, but their label, Astralwerks, won't let them — and the pop star isn't happy, to say the least.
Astralwerks is looking for more buzz on TikTok before releasing the new song, but things may have backfired on them, as Halsey used the same platform to express their anger: "[...] I've sold over 165 million records and my record company is saying I can't release it unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok."
Halsey also said "some of you think I'm lying about this whole fiasco", and therefore posted a second video with receipts. The clip shows the artist on the phone with an unidentified person, who tells them that they can release the song title and the artwork, if they wish, but not the date that the single drops.
Fellow singers FKA Twigs and Florence Welch have similar things to say about their labels, with Twigs saying, "It's true all record labels ask for are TikToks and I got told off today for not making enough effort." Welch of Florence + the Machine said, "The label are begging me for 'low fi TikToks' [...] send help."
