After her high-profile affair with Russell Crowe in the '90s, Meg Ryan kept her personal life private until 2011, when news broke of her relationship with musician John Mellencamp. For Ryan, this was another rocky relationship that wouldn’t last.
The couple broke up for the first time in 2014, when Mellencamp shot down the idea of living in New York with Ryan, saying he “can't see poor people” and “the trash on the streets.” Even though the couple reunited in 2017, more obstacles would spring up between them.
Ryan and Mellencamp’s relationship flourished after 2017 – they even got engaged in 2018 – but less than a year later, they called it off. Allegedly, the spotlight-shy Mellencamp couldn’t handle Ryan’s fame even back in 2014, when a source said “I don't think he loved all the attention he got just from dating an actress.”
However, Mellencamp also admitted that he has a difficult and moody personality, calling himself a “child” who throws fits and complains, which led Ryan to end their relationship. A source simply said, "She'd had enough."
