Interesting Facts About Sebastian Stan
By BRENT FURDYK
he was born in Romania
Sebastian Stan was born in Constanta, Romania, then moved to Vienna, and finally settled in the US. Stan speaks fluent Romanian despite having left as a young child, and even though he “felt a lot of shame” when he mentioned his background as a teenager, his attitude has changed as he has become older, calling himself “a proud Romanian.”
he fell in love with acting
Acting was an ambition of Stan since he was young, and it really blossomed after he attended the world-famous theater camp Stagedoor Manor, which served as a launching pad for several other stars including Zach Braff, Natalie Portman, and Robert Downey Jr. Stan described it as a “magical, magical place” where he made “some amazing friendships.”
Success did not come easily
Stan admitted he auditioned for three years without being cast in anything, but he believes there’s a lot to be said for simple tenacity: “I always look at auditions as not even getting the job as much as I’m just trying to connect with this casting director.” It would seem that attitude worked, as he eventually booked his first major role.
his music video role
One of Stan’s first roles was in a music video for Hayden Panetierre’s 2008 single “Wake Up Call.” Stan had actually played Panetierre’s older brother in the 2006 film “The Architect,” and in her music video he portrayed her shady boyfriend, showing off an impressive range between the two projects.
he dated a Gossip Girl star
Stan’s appearance on “Gossip Girl,” brought him notoriety and a romance with series lead Leighton Meester. They dated from 2008 to 2010, and despite their split, Stan clearly bears no grudges against her or the show, saying that he will “always have a soft spot in [his] heart for that show and everybody who was on it.”
