Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock shocked friends, family, and fans when they filed for divorce in June 2020, citing "irreconcilable differences." Here’s how those differences led to the end of the couple’s six-year marriage.
After having a daughter and son with Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson thought that their family was complete… until she contracted “baby fever.” In 2020, Clarkson stated she wanted more children, but Blackstock, who also has two from a previous marriage, did not.
The couple’s goals and personalities are also different, with a source describing Blackstock as “laid-back,” while Clarkson is “high-strung.” Clarkson’s decision to start “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and coach on “The Voice” differed from Blackstock’s preference of a quiet family life, showing their clashing ideals.

Quarantine didn’t help Clarkson and Blackstock’s marriage troubles. Being stuck in one place with one person for months truly puts a relationship to the test, and a source close to the singer said that "being in quarantine together heightened their problems to the point of no return.”

Finally, the couple’s hectic lifestyles took a toll on their relationship, and the split was very hard for Clarkson, who “[felt] like [she had] lost everything,” according to one source. However, Clarkson has stayed busy writing music and working on other projects, and is hopefully having an easier time today.
