"Mean Girls," released in 2004, remains one of the most iconic films in pop culture. Fans might be surprised to learn that casting for the film was not a straightforward process, especially for Rachel McAdams' character of Regina George, one of the most infamous teen movie villains of all time.

Lindsay Lohan worked with "Mean Girls" director Mark Waters on "Freaky Friday," and at one time, Waters believed he had the perfect Regina George in Lohan. "Her energy is a very aggressive, testosterone-laden energy, and that's exactly what I knew I needed for Regina George," he told Vulture.

Lohan was on the same wavelength, with Waters saying "When I gave it to her, she was like [...] This is exactly the part I want to play.'" However, following "Freaky Friday," audiences associated Lohan with a more likable character, so she ended up playing Cady Heron, the heroine of "Mean Girls."

Lohan wasn't the only one who could have played Regina George, but ended up playing a different character in the film. "The person who was neck and neck for the role of Regina — and we agonized over which one we were going to cast — was Amanda Seyfried," Waters told Vulture.
