At an October 2016 presidential debate, shortly after her husband Donald’s infamous “grab ‘em by the p***y” soundbite leaked, Melania wore a pink Gucci top called (yes, really) a pussy-bow blouse. Twitter had a field day over Melania’s shirt, with one user wondering if Donald “grabbed it from the closet” for her.

THE PUSSY-BOW BLOUSE

At her husband’s inauguration, Melania wore a pretty Ralph Lauren baby blue cashmere ensemble. Melania herself didn’t get the brunt of the controversy here; rather, Ralph Lauren got a rude awakening when social media users called for a boycott of the brand due to their working with Mrs. Trump.

THE RALPH LAUREN SUIT

Melania’s classy White House portrait was literally outshined by her massive 25-carat, $3 million anniversary ring. Internet users pointed out her “gaudy” and gratuitous display of wealth, with one user implying that the ring was unsympathetic to America, where the average citizen can’t really relate to flaunting such expensive jewelry.

THE BLING RING

At a 2017 speech to the United Nations, Melania preached about ending child hunger and poverty while wearing a $2,950 hot pink designer dress with billowing balloon sleeves. Angry netizens felt that her gaudy Marie Antoinette-esque outfit made her statements seem hollow, hypocritical, and detached.

At the February 2017 Congressional address, Democratic women wore white for women’s rights, while the First Lady wore all black, making her look contrarian. Melania pulled the same move at the 2018 State of the Union, when Democratic women wore black in solidarity with the #MeToo movement, while Melania wore an all-white pantsuit.
