QUEEN ELIZABETH IS SKIPPING OUT ON EVEN MORE IN-PERSON ENGAGEMENTS
By FRANCES DEAN
Queen Elizabeth II has always presented a strong and composed image to her country, but it isn't always easy. From catching COVID to Harry and Meghan leaving to the Prince Andrew scandal, things have been rough on the queen lately, and now she won't be attending some important engagements.
The queen is skipping this year's Royal Garden Parties, an event last held in 2019, in which the queen invites citizens who have served the commonwealth in some notable way to mingle with the royals for a day. "Aides point to long periods of standing which the Queen can no longer do," royal journalist Chris Ship tweeted.
This announcement threw Twitter into a tizzy, with some wondering if Elizabeth will even attend her platinum jubilee this summer. Many questioned why the queen can't simply use a wheelchair: "It could be a really lovely one, padded for comfort. She does t [sic] have to stand up to still be the Queen," one user wrote.
Still others feel that Elizabeth passing the throne to Prince Charles is more imminent than ever. In February, the queen announced that Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, could call herself Queen Consort upon Charles' ascension to the throne — a move that surprised many, given their notoriously icy relationship.
