Taylor Swift's Private Jet Controversy Just Got
Even Worse
By LILLIAN GAO
Taylor Swift is responsible for emitting more carbon dioxide than any other celebrity, with her private jet emitting more carbon dioxide in seven months than 1,184 people emit in a year. This excessive use of her private jet has obviously led to a lot of backlash online, and now her spokesperson has stepped in with an embarrassing official statement.
On July 30, Swift’s spokesperson claimed, “Taylor's jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals. To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.” However, this sparked more of a debate, with one Buzzfeed News reader commenting, “I don't care who's on the plane [...] If you own it, you're responsible for it.”
Twitter users chimed in, with one commenting, “You've really gotta hand it to taylor swift's publicist bc 'she generously rents out her jet for her poorer friends’ [...] is the funniest possible way to put a humanitarian spin on her carbon emissions.” Many people agree Swift and her team should have accepted responsibility, and, as a Buzzfeed reader noted, a more proper response would’ve been, “We're grateful this was brought to our attention.”
