According to Today, Jada Pinkett Smith first met Tupac Shakur in 1986 when they were just sophomores at the Baltimore School for the Arts in Maryland.

Over the years, the two continued to have a strong friendship until Shakur’s run-ins with the law in 1994. In 2023, Pinkett Smith disclosed a medical condition Shakur suffered from.

The actress revealed that Shakur, like her, also suffered from alopecia, which is an autoimmune disorder that affects the hair follicles and causes hair loss.

Pinkett Smith told People that the rapper began experiencing hair loss after his arrest in 1991 and that “his alopecia patterns were far more extreme than” hers.

It’s unclear what parts of Shakur’s body the medical condition affected, but Pinkett Smith explained it deeply impacted the musician, although he never publicly addressed it.
