During the fight to #FreeBritney from her conservatorship, the drama in the Spears family certainly intensified. After a New York Times documentary fired up the world to stand behind the singer, pressure on Spears' father Jamie Spears and opened up wounds between him and ex-wife Lynne.

Lynne Spears wrote a 2008 memoir, "Through the Storm," that follows Britney's conservatorship and public "meltdown." Lynne reveals that it was Britney herself who encouraged her parents to divorce in 2002 after 26 years of marriage, but the real reasons for the split are far more complicated.

According to the memoir, Britney behind her mother's decision to leave "knowing that years and years of verbal abuse, abandonment, erratic behavior, and his simply not being there for me had taken their toll". Jamie and Lynne Spears proceeded to accuse each other of exploiting Britney over the years.
