Scarlett Johansson told Glamour in 2014 that in her previous relationships, she never quite knew what she wanted — without naming ex-husband Ryan Reynolds. She added “That's not necessarily any reflection of who I was married to or what was happening in my marriage.”

Sources told InTouch that Johansson and Ryan Reynolds started as a case of opposites attract — and that in the end, they realized opposites are actually incompatible. "He's more traditional and she's more independent," an insider said (via the Daily Mail).

In April 2016, Johansson hinted that career competition with Reynolds may have played a role in their split. "The logistics of being with another actor are challenging," she said. She has also hinted that his string of box office bombs while she was successful may have made him feel threatened.

There aren’t many photographs of Johansson and Reynolds together, which seems to be more of Johansson's doing. Johansson and her second husband, Romain Dauriac — whom she married in a secret ceremony in 2014 and divorced in 2017 — were rarely seen in public either.
