The two wed in 1981 after a whirlwind eight-month courtship when Bertinelli was just 20 years old, and in 1991, they welcomed a son, Wolfgang "Wolf" Van Halen. Their marriage would continue for 10 years until the couple's separation in 2001, followed by their divorce in 2007.

In 2008, sitcom star Valerie Bertinelli claimed that illicit drug use and infidelity were the catalysts for her divorce to rock star Eddie Van Halen. Drugs were just the tip of the iceberg, as Bertinelli also admitted that she had been unfaithful to Van Halen.

Although Halen and Bertinelli divorced in 2007, they managed to remain friends and successfully co-parent their son Wolfgang together. The two were such great friends that Halen even invited his ex-wife and mother of his child to his nuptials with Janie Liszewski in 2009.

Hours after Eddie Van Halen's passing, actress Valerie Bertinelli took to Instagram to pen a thoughtful tribute to her former spouse and father of her adult son. "[Forty] years ago my life changed forever when I met you," Bertinelli wrote.
