Jennifer Lopez's marriages
Jennifer Lopez married waiter Ojani Noa in 1997, and they divorced the following year on good terms, but Noa eventually became a thorn in Lopez's side, attempting to write a book about their romance among other intrusions of privacy. Her second marriage with dancer Cris Judd lasted from 2001 to 2003, and “just didn’t work out,” according to Judd.
Thank Halle Berry
Ben Affleck and Lopez didn’t really get to know each other until they started filming the 2003 movie “Gigli,” and might never have done so if Halle Berry hadn’t dropped the role as Affleck’s co-star. Lopez was still married at the time, which allowed her and Affleck to bond as friends “without any of the falseness that goes with courtship,” Affleck told Vanity Fair.
professions of love
Before “Gigli” hit theaters, Affleck paid around $20,000 to publish ads that lauded Lopez’s “astonishing talent, real poise and true grace” in order to counteract J-Lo’s reputation as a diva. For Lopez’s part, she wrote the song “Dear Ben,” and included Affleck in her “Jenny From the Block” music video, which included visual references to the public’s obsession with Bennifer.
Ben Affleck’s first proposal
Lopez shared the details of Affleck’s 2002 proposal with Diane Sawyer. Affleck invited Lopez to his Boston home where she thought they were just going to have a low-key night, but after walking through the door Lopez was shocked by the romantic décor (which Affleck’s mother helped him with), and even more stunned by the $1.2 million engagement ring.
Affleck accused of infidelity
In 2003, an exotic dancer accused Affleck of having a little too much fun at her job, where he was joined by actors Tara Reid and Christian Slater. Affleck appeared on “The Tonight Show” to explain that he was tricked into an impromptu bachelor party, while Lopez herself told W magazine that “what they put in the paper is not what happened, so it doesn’t matter.”
