With over 80 million followers on Instagram alone, it's clear that both Dua Lipa and her music have taken the world by storm. With new fans constantly joining the community, the singer tends to get a few repeated questions, such as ones about her name.
"A lot of people never really believe that my name really is Dua," Dua Lipa said in a sit down with designer Patrizia Pepe. She went on to explain the meaning behind her name, telling Pepe, "My parents are originally from Kosovo, and 'Dua' means love in Albanian."
While her name literally means love, Lipa didn't always love her moniker, telling Pepe, "I guess growing up in London and going to school in London, I just wish I had a normal name." However, as she got older, Lipa found a new appreciation for the uniqueness of her name.
In a 2018 "Wendy Willams Show" episode, the host mispronounced the pop star’s name as "Dula Peep," and ever since, fans have used it as a term of endearment for the singer. During a 2019 interview on "The Tonight Show," Lipa said that she is cool with her fans using the nickname.
