THE TRUTH ABOUT KATIE COURIC AND DIANE SAWYER'S TENSE RELATIONSHIP
By L.C.
In the 1990s, Katie Couric spent 15 years working for NBC's "Today," becoming one of the most memorable faces on television. At the time, Couric's biggest competition was Diane Sawyer, who anchored ABC's "Good Morning America," and it almost seems natural that the two would have a feud.
"That woman must be stopped," Couric said of Sawyer in her memoir, and their rivalry became so prominent that Couric printed those exact words onto a throw pillow. One "big get" that caused tension between Sawyer and Couric was Sawyer's infamous 2002 interview with Whitney Houston.
The interview was controversial due to Sawyer's questions about the singer's weight and drug use. Couric wrote in her memoir, "There was a very fine line between a revealing interview and the exploitation of troubled, often traumatized people in service of tawdry tidbits and sensational sound bites."
