The Truth About Lindsay Lohan's Time In Jail

In July 2010, "Mean Girls" star Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail for violating her probation. Because of overcrowding, Lohan served only 14 days, but she still told Ophrah Winfrey that it was "terrifying" — and then said something much more surprising.

Lohan said that "somewhere inside... [I] kind of wanted to go to jail," hoping that it would bring her peace. Her criminal charges were turbulent; her original sentencing was for a July 2007 DIU arrest, her second charge for that crime, and police found cocaine in her car, adding a felony drug possession charge to the mix.

In August 2007, Lohan pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges, resulting in a three-year probation sentence, and was also ordered to complete an alcohol program and spend one day in jail. Lohan was released after 84 minutes in jail, with officials again citing overcrowding.

Lohan continued to face drug and alcohol addiction after her two weeks in jail. Two months after her release, Lohan failed a drug test, and she tweeted about her struggles: "Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn't go away overnight. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps."
