The Truth About Renée Zellweger's Plastic Surgery

In 2014, Renée Zellweger shocked fans when she appeared at Elle magazine’s Women In Hollywood event looking very, very different. Reporters and doctors speculated about which plastic surgery procedures she had done to alter her appearance.

Initially, Zellweger told People, "I'm glad folks think I look different! I'm living a different, happy, more fulfilling life,” attributing her new look to lifestyle changes and aging. She later wrote in The Huffington Post, “I did not make a decision to alter my face and have surgery on my eyes.”

Later on, Zellweger said that “international humiliation” — AKA, all that press about her face — shifted her feelings about the situation. She stated that she got “the hardest kick” and became more in-touch with how criticism affects her, and is now living a happier, more private life.

Zellweger also blew off a reporter who asked her about plastic surgery, as she disliked “the implication that I somehow needed to change what was going on.” She felt she was being judged on her authenticity, and said, “That makes me sad… I don't want to be something else.”

Unfortunately, Zellweger continued to face criticism, and once heard strangers gossiping about her on the subway: “Why would she go and have surgery on her face like we wouldn't know?” She got to surprise one of them when he spotted her on the train, and the man was quite embarrassed.
