To say that Tom Hanks is a veteran actor would be an understatement, as he has won multiple Academy Awards and the Golden Globes’ Cecil B. DeMille Award. His personal life is great too, having been married to Rita Wilson since 1988, but what happened to his first wife, Samantha Lewes?
In 1977 when Tom Hanks was 21, the aspiring actor had a baby — aka Colin Hanks — with his college sweetheart, Samantha Lewes. Four years later, they welcomed their daughter Elizabeth, and while Hanks is proud of how he raised her, he says he could’ve done a little better.

In 1987, Tom Hanks and Samantha Lewes finalized their divorce, which was difficult on the couple, with the former saying he was too young for marriage. After her divorce from Hanks, Lewes was diagnosed with bone cancer and died of the illness in 2002.

Hanks’ son Colin shared that he was about 8 or 9 when his parents broke up, and he moved to Sacramento to be with his mom. He visited Tom in Los Angeles "every other weekend," and during summers, he'd travel to wherever his "old man had a job."
