Sarah Ferguson has spoken a few times about her divorce from Prince Andrew. In 2007, she told Harper's Bazaar that Andrew's Navy career played a part in the split: "two weeks after the wedding, the courtiers told Andrew, who thought he'd be stationed in London, 'You have to go to sea.' I spent my entire first pregnancy alone [...] when he left I cried."
However, "Fergie" herself sparked fervor when the Washington Post published photos of her embracing American businessman John Bryan, not long after she and Andrew separated. Still, we know all women of the royal family are put under unfair scrutiny, and we may never know if Ferguson actually had an affair, as some tabloids implied.
Since their divorce, Ferguson and Andrew have remained close friends and attentive parents to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. During an appearance at a children’s festival in 2013, Ferguson said that "he’ll always be my handsome prince" — a sentiment she carried into the midst of Andrew's recent controversy.
Prince Andrew has been linked to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and Ferguson has publicly come to her former spouse's defense, saying to Vogue Arabia in 2019 that it was hard to see such a wonderful man go through enormous pain. This has sparked rumors of romance rekindling between the exes, but they still seem to be just friends.
