Tragic Details About Anne Hathaway
By ALEX CENEVIVA
she dealt with depression
Anne Hathaway suffered from depression and anxiety in her youth but wasn’t willing to take medication for it, saying in an interview, “I didn’t know how to love myself, which meant I didn’t know how to love anybody.” These days she has found happiness within herself, but because of her past, she confessed, “It just seemed like it could never happen to me.”
she was fat-shamed
Hathaway has dealt with people commenting on her weight for a long time, resulting in unhealthy habits to lose weight, saying that the weight loss for her role in “Les Misérables” “was not a long-term good thing for my health. [...] I'd lost a lot of weight in about two weeks.” Hathaway has since changed the way she approaches her body and the haters.
her ex was a con-man
Before Hathaway met her husband Adam Shulman, she was in a serious relationship with Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri, which began in 2004. Hathaway admired Folleri’s commitment to charity, but in 2008 her boyfriend was arrested for fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy, leading the actress to dump him immediately.
Her Oscar hurt her career
After Hathaway accepted the Oscar for her role in “Les Misérables,” her “stiff, prepared-sounding speech” led people to lambast her for trying too hard, per the New York Post. Hathaway revealed, “I kind of lost my mind doing [“Les Misérables”],” and “I had to stand up in front of people and […] pretend that I was happy and I got called out on it, big time.”
she was cyberbullied
While on “The Ellen Degeneres Show,” the star recalled seeing an article titled “Why Does Everybody Hate Anne Hathaway?,” and said that “If you don’t love yourself […] a part of you is always going to believe [the hate].” Since then she has appeared to stand up more to the rudeness, telling a Jezebel writer that she was done reading their website due to their distaste for her.
