Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton married Shannon Kelley in 1990. Unfortunately, Retton and Kelley’s union ended in 2017 when the couple filed for divorce after 27 years of marriage.

Retton opened up about her separation from Kelly in 2018, during her stint on “Dancing With the Stars,” saying “We still love one another, but we weren’t great together anymore.”

In an interview with People, the Olympic medalist provided further insight into her divorce admitting, “There wasn't one defining moment ... it was that we grew apart.”

According to The Blast, Retton also said that her marriage with Kelley was at a point of no return due to their conflicting personalities, destroying any chance of reconciliation.
