Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen was the gold standard for models in her day, and Rolling Stone called her “the most beautiful girl in the world.” Her catwalk days are behind her now, and she’s since revealed that even “the most beautiful girl” has insecurities, including regrets about plastic surgery.
Bündchen was once known as the “Boobs from Brazil” due to her legendary bust. In her book, she said her breasts shrank when she started breastfeeding her two children, which led to unfair scrutiny: “‘When I showed up for jobs, some people would make comments [...] ‘What happened to your boobs?’”
Bündchen became self-conscious about her breasts and felt that she wasn’t living up to expectations, so she got breast augmentation surgery. She called the operation “one of the most upsetting decisions of my life,” saying it made her body unrecognizable and led her to wonder, “Why did I do this to myself?”
Though Bündchen regrets giving into pressure, she learned a big lesson: “listen to yourself first, to be clear about what you want, before making decisions. After all, you will be the one living with the results.” She’s returned to listening to and loving herself, rather than trying to please others.
