WILL SMITH'S FIRST AWARD AFTER OSCARS SLAP HAS TWITTER CONFLICTED
By ALESSANDRA G
Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars was dubbed "the slap heard across the world," and it seems like fans are still hearing that slap today. Smith just won his first acting accolade since the Academy Awards — where he won Best Actor for "King Richard" — leading Twitter users to dig up their opinions on the Smith and Rock incident once again.
On June 26, 2022, Smith won a BET award for "King Richard," but the actor was not present at the ceremony. One user tweeted about Smith's staying silent and out of the public over the past few months: "All his awards are tarnished now.. he's going to have to talk about this unless he plans and [sic] early retirement."
Another user added, "Stupidity knows no bounds. Instead of making an example of bad and illegal behavior, BET celebrates it." However, some fans supported Smith, showing forgiveness over the slap or perhaps no hard feelings about it in the first place; one user wrote, "Congratulations to #WillSmith on his #BETAwards win! Well, deserved!"
