ZENDAYA SEEMINGLY RESPONDS TO VIRAL PREGNANCY RUMORS
By BRANDON BOMBAY
"Spider-Man" co-stars Tom Holland and Zendaya got a lot of attention as a pair even before they confirmed their relationship. Plenty of speculation still surrounds the couple today, and the most popular rumor at the moment claims that Zendaya is pregnant — but now the star herself is weighing in.
The pregnancy rumor drove Twitter users nuts in June 2022, with one writing, "Wait bro so is zendaya like actually pregnant ?! I'm gagged." However, Zendaya shot down the idea on her Instagram story, writing, "See now, this is why I stay off Twitter. Just making stuff up for no reason ... weekly." But the wackiness of this rumor doesn't stop there.
Reports of Zendaya's pregnancy originated as a meme on TikTok, not an intentional disinformation campaign. The meme, called "getting Krissed," involves creating semi-convincing hoax videos, usually about celebrities, before abruptly cutting to a clip of Kris Jenner dancing a la Rickrolling; Zendaya's "pregnancy" is a particularly popular theme.
Unfortunately, by the time the meme reached Twitter, it had gone from a joke to a genuine rumor, which not only upset Zendaya herself, but some of her fans. One user wrote, "Zendaya is NOT pregnant and THIS is why she don't talk to us!", and another added, "Stop saying zendaya is pregnant and get krissed motherf***ers."
