Meghan Markle's Half-Sister Is Calling Out The Royal Family

Meghan Markle's half-sister, Samantha Markle, is making headlines once again.

On May 22, 2018, The Telegraph reported that Samantha slammed the royal family for their treatment of her father, Thomas Markle. Specifically, she criticized the royals for not giving Thomas his own coat of arms — something that Kate Middleton's father, Michael, was given when she married Prince William.

"To exclude him off a coat of arms is really stripping him of an honour and it's a huge insult," Samantha fumed to The Sun. "After a heart attack that would be cruel and isolating."

Samantha, who has never shied away from voicing her opinion, also bashed the royal family for what she perceived as a superior attitude, noting that they'd had "generations of scandal" themselves. "You've got inbreeding, you've got substance abuse, you've got alcohol abuse, you've got infidelity," she stated. "On what grounds could the royals feel that the Markles are somehow not worthy?"

According to the Daily Mail, Thomas was not given a coat of arms because the process was deemed too "complicated," as it involves proving that the family had an ancestor who was a subject of the Crown. Instead, Meghan will be given her own coat of arms. However, her American family won't be able to use it (via Page Six).

As Nicki Swift previously reported, Thomas was unable to attend Meghan's wedding to Prince Harry on May 19, as he had underwent heart surgery earlier in the week following a heart attack. Meghan confirmed that her father would not be with her own her big day, telling the public, "Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health."

Prior to Thomas' surgery, he had flip-flopped on his plans to attend the royal wedding. While he'd initially wanted to walk his daughter down the aisle, he later changed his mind when it was revealed that he had staged photos of himself preparing for the wedding with a paparazzi agency. He backed out of the wedding, explaining that he didn't want to further embarrass Meghan or the royal family. However, he later claimed he would still be attending the wedding, before ultimately deciding not to go due to his surgery.

However, Thomas, of course, still watched Harry and Meghan's wedding on TV. "My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy," he told TMZ at the time. "I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and all happiness."

According to Entertainment Tonight, Harry and Meghan may be planning to visit her father in Mexico, where he currently resides, sometime soon.
