We tend to admire celebrities for their glamorous lifestyles, and why shouldn't we? They live pretty charmed lives. Their faces are on magazine covers, they have millions of fans who hang on their every word, and they're loved the world over. However, some celebs have crossed the line at some point during their careers, which resulted in them being 86'd from certain establishments, media outlets, and even entire countries. Here are the famous people who've been banned from places for life.
Gene Simmons
Gene Simmons, the bassist for the rock band KISS, has never been afraid to state his conservative views. So he always had a few allies over at Fox News...up until November 2017, according to The Daily Beast.
It wasn't his political beliefs that landed him in hot water, though. It was his thoughts on the Harvey Weinstein scandal that rocked Hollywood in 2017. While speaking with Fox & Friends, the musician stated, "Okay, I'm a powerful and attractive man, and what I'm about to say is deadly serious. Men are jackasses. From the time we're young we have testosterone. I'm not validating it or defending it." That same day, he barged into a Fox staff meeting, while reportedly opening up his shirt and shouting, "Hey chicks, sue me!" He then allegedly began "telling Michael Jackson pedophilia jokes" and hit two employees in the head with a copy of his book.
An employee reported Simmons' behavior, and he was banned from the building and forbidden from appearing on any Fox programming. He later released an apology, which was published on The Daily Beast. He sounded remorseful when he stated, "I am sincerely sorry that I unintentionally offended members of the Fox team during my visit."
Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber previously left a bad impression on China's government when he was photographed catching a ride up the Great Wall of China on his bodyguards' shoulders in October 2103. But in July 2017, China had officially had enough.
The Beijing municipal culture bureau didn't point to a specific incident, but they made it clear they didn't approve of the "Sorry" singer's recent "words and actions." The BBC reported that the bureau released a statement, calling Bieber a "controversial young foreign singer," and that it was appropriate to allow an entertainer who displays such "bad behavior" to enter their country.
If Bieber decides to behave more appropriately in the future, it seems that China would be willing to get rid of the ban. The bureau ended its statement by saying, "We hope that as Justin Bieber matures, he can continue to improve his own words and actions, and truly become a singer beloved by the public."
Ariana Grande
How could we forget Ariana Grande's infamous donut-licking incident?! Well, if you've been away from a laptop and a flat screen since 2015, we'll give you a brief rundown.
Grande, her boyfriend, and a few members from her crew hit up Wolfee Donuts in Lake Elsinore, CA in July 2015. While standing at the counter, the couple dared each other to lick the jelly donuts that were on display, and of course, Grande was caught red-handed by the surveillance camera footage that was later released by TMZ. But that wasn't all–she made some pretty disparaging comments about Americans while taking a break from her lick-fest. When one of the donut shop's employees returned with a new tray of fresh donuts, Grande asked, "What the f— is that?" She continued on by saying, "I hate Americans. I hate America."
She later apologized via a lengthy post on her Twitter. She stated in the caption, "Need to clean up this mouth of mine & set a better example for my babes. I apologize and I love you. Always learning."
Her fans may have forgiven her, but Wolfee's Donuts didn't. The owner, Joe Marin, had initially planned to press charges, according to BuzzFeed. But he later declined to move forward with filing a criminal complaint, according to People magazine. Instead, he banned her from his establishment for life and said he wouldn't reconsider even if she personally apologized to him.
No donuts for you!
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga was ready to serenade her fans in Jakarta, Indonesia for a June 2012 concert date. But one month before her scheduled show date, Indonesia put a stop to her performance.
The "Born This Way" singer was refused a permit and banned from the country for being too "vulgar," according to Vogue UK. A spokesman for the stadium that was set to hold the concert said, "Our decision was based on input from various elements of society. The decision also is to prevent disturbances in society caused by the Lady Gaga concert. She's too vulgar and the concert does not fit with our culture."
We're sure Gaga was a bit disappointed about being banned from the country. However, she revealed in a since-deleted tweet (via Vogue UK) that it wasn't just the country's censorship rules that got her concert shut down, it was "religious extremists" in who were threatening violence. Suddenly, we're not so upset that she was banned from Indonesia. A person's safety should always come first!
O.J. Simpson
A mere five weeks after being released from Lovelock Correctional Center in Las Vegas after being convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping, Orenthal James "O.J." Simpson was back to being on his worst behavior.
The former NFL star returned to his old stomping grounds in Vegas and decided to hit up The Cosmopolitan hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. While there, Simpson was enjoying his time as a free man, while getting wasted at the hotel's Clique bar, according to Us Weekly. Around midnight, Simpson was a bit too intoxicated and reportedly became "very unruly, yelling at hotel staff and then knocked over glasses from the bar that shattered onto the floor."
He was then asked to leave and was "permanently banned" from the hotel for being an intoxicated mess. Luckily for him, there are a bunch of other casinos on The Strip where he can celebrate his release and throw back a few drinks with (brave) fellow partygoers.
Vince Neil
Simpson isn't the only celeb who's been banned from a Las Vegas hotel. Vince Neil, the frontman for the rock band Motley Crue, found himself blacklisted from The Palms hotel and casino.
It all went down in April 2012 when Neil went on a rampage against the hotel in a series of since-deleted tweets. In the first tweet, which was published by TMZ, Neil angrily stated, "Do [sic] to recent events, including distrust and dishonesty at the executive level. I will never again step foot @palms property."
The Palms responded via Twitter by stating the rocker had been kicked out of their restaurant "as a result of his inappropriate behavior" and for threatening to give the hotel staff "negative publicity."
The Palms continued by saying, "We cannot and will not allow our guests, no matter who they are, to mistreat our team members. As a result of his actions, Mr. Neil is no longer welcome at The Palms." Maybe this is why he moved forward with opening his own Vegas bar and restaurant, Tatuado in Circus Circus, so he can eat and drink in peace.
Miley Cyrus
During her Bangerz era, we got an up close and personal peek at Miley Cyrus' tush more times than we can remember, including the time she twerked like her life depended on it during her 2013 MTV VMA performance alongside Robin Thicke. She definitely raised a few eyebrows while donning her flesh colored two-piece. But it wasn't the most shocking performance we had seen from the Disney alum to that point. (Hello, does the music video from "Wrecking Ball" ring a bell?)
Her fans were delighted by her new persona, and we all just chalked it up to, "Oh, she's just being Miley." But the Dominican Republic wasn't amused by her new, racy appearance and her affinity for sticking out her tongue wherever she went.
According to the AP (via NY Post), the singer's September 2013 concert was canceled by the Dominican Republic government. In a statement, they said Cyrus often "undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law." Bummer.
In May 2017, Cyrus debuted a much more demure and sophisticated appearance to Billboard magazine to coincide with the release of her album, Younger Now. It's possible the Dominican Republic's government would approve of her new toned down appearance. So who knows–maybe their ban will be ending much sooner than expected. Hey, DR fans, cross those fingers!
Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne has had a tumultuous relationship with the NBA. Back in 2012, he tweeted that he was denied entry into an Oklahoma City Thunders game. Mack Maine, the president of his Young Money record label, confirmed to MTV that Wayne's ticket broker "said they'll give him some tickets on the front row behind, but they're not really tryin' to have him sittin' courtside."
Do you think Wayne gave up on his dream of having his feet planted on the hardwood of an NBA arena? Not a chance! In February 2013, he was back, watching the Miami Heat versus the L.A. Lakers. And that's when he claimed in a tweet that police made him leave.
But a fan in attendance had a completely different story. According to a Yahoo report, Wayne allegedly got into a verbal altercation with someone in the stands. The fan stated, in a since-deleted tweet, that Wayne was booted after he "gave him a mean stare & gestured he had a gun." A spokesperson for the Heat said the rapper wasn't kicked out, but chose to leave on his own.
And it didn't end there. During a Houston concert (via HuffingtonPost), Wayne claimed the NBA had banned him from all games league-wide. He stated, "The NBA banned me from all NBA events...It's because the Miami Heat told them to ban me." He also said he had sex with former Heat star Chris Bosh's wife, but we'll save that story for another day.
Madonna
Texting in a movie theater is a big no-no, but that doesn't stop many moviegoers for powering up their devices and texting away during the middle of a film. And who knew–Madonna is just like the rest of us who try to secretly squeeze in a few text messages in a pitch-black theater.
The singer was attending the New York Film Festival premiere of 12 Years a Slave at an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. The theater chain has a strict no-texting policy, according to Entertainment Weekly, but perhaps Madonna didn't get the memo.
She was texting away and, when a moviegoer asked her to stop, she reportedly shouted, "It's for business...enslaver!"
In a since-deleted tweet, the movie chain's CEO and founder, Time League, stated Madonna would no longer be welcomed into his theaters. When asked if he was joking, he replied, "Yeah, I'm serious, but I don't think it really affects her life that much."
Chris Brown
The gym is where most people go to work on their fitness and release some stress–but Chris Brown allegedly ruined the mood when he visited a Life Time fitness center in New York City.
According to TMZ, Brown hit up the gym on a Friday to play a game of basketball with his crew. To get into an intense game of ball, they turned on some music and reportedly began "cussing and hurling insults" at each other. A manager approached the singer and his friends and asked them to leave for being disruptive, and that's when Brown reportedly lost it–and, allegedly, he didn't leave without spitting on his way out the door!
A rep for the fitness center confirmed that Brown had been permanently banned from all of their locations nationwide. But we're sure he's not too concerned about getting the boot. With a net worth of reportedly $30 million, he can afford to purchase his own Life Time Fitness franchise...or build a custom gym in his mansion at least.
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton started out as an American socialite, but it didn't take her long to make an international impact. The former reality star has released various fragrance lines throughout her time in the spotlight, and she was headed to Japan in 2010 to promote her products to her Asian market.
But according to the AP (via Hollywood Reporter), Hilton was in for a huge surprise when she landed at an airport in Tokyo. She was immediately detained and questioned for six hours before spending the night in an airport hotel. In the morning, she was forced to charter a plane back to Los Angeles after the airport denied her entry into Japan.
The reason Japan refused to let her on their soil stemmed from when the heiress plead guilty to a misdemeanor drug charge for cocaine possession just a few days prior to her international trip.
Hilton took it all in stride, and she didn't let the rejection spoil her day. Before heading back to the States, she reportedly told reporters, "I'm going back home, and I look forward to coming back to Japan in the future...I'm really tired."
Everyone deserves a second chance, and we can only hope Japan will one day welcome Hilton back into their country with open arms.
