Lisa Rinna's Plastic Surgery Explained

Lisa Rinna is widely known for her iconic pout and colorful candor. In her Season 11 tagline on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," Rinna declared, "My lips are legendary, and they will never gloss over the truth." While many celebrities have lied about never having plastic surgery procedures, the former soap star has been notably outspoken regarding the work she's had done. She's also tried to destigmatize the taboo topic. In a 2013 appearance on "HuffPost Live," Rinna commented on how plastic surgery is often viewed with judgment, adding, "It's nobody's business. I don't care what you do. If it makes you feel good, do it."

As a 2013 guest co-host on "Today," Rinna talked about being a leading lip mogul. Referring to her lip surgery, she said, "I feel like I'm a pioneer. I'm going to take it on now. I was one of the first ones to ever do it and be honest about it." She continued, "I never had a career before I had the lips. So, my lips have had their own career. Without my lips, I would've had a different career." The star eventually capitalized on her famous pout by creating a lip line called Rinna Beauty. So, what cosmetic procedures has Rinna actually had done? Read on for the inside scoop on Rinna's plastic surgery transformation.

The evolution of Lisa Rinna's iconic lips

Lisa Rinna hasn't been shy about revealing details about her plastic surgery. According to Access, she initially got collagen injected in her lips. However, Rinna eventually wanted to take her lips to the next level: "Well, collagen doesn't last so I got the brilliant idea to have some silicone put in because it lasts forever." Inspired by the movie "Beaches," Rinna made a major decision in her mid-20s to have permanent silicone filler injected into her top lip. She ended up having four injections, per People. Though initially happy with her new lips, she eventually regretted the procedure and experienced ensuing public criticism. After a decade, the silicone formed scar tissue that Rinna described to People as "hard and bumpy, like peas." To lessen the swelling, she received cortisone shots, but "it made them look worse."

Despite hearing that the damage couldn't be reversed, Rinna went to Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Garth Fisher. He told her that he could rework her top lip by taking out some of the damaged tissue and adjusting what remained. At the time, Rinna told People, "I was dumbfounded. Then I started to get really excited." Fortunately, the procedure had profoundly positive changes for Rinna. She shared with People, "You can see my teeth when I smile now, which you couldn't do for a while. I've been smiling these big smiles!"

Lisa Rinna's other plastic surgery procedures

In regards to plastic surgery, Lisa Rinna hasn't just gotten lip fillers. According to the Daily Mail, she received a breast augmentation in 1998. She's also gotten Botox and facial fillers, which she confessed she's gone overboard with. In a 2008 interview with InTouch (via HuffPost), the self-proclaimed pout pioneer said she'd pull back: "Two days ago, I saw a photo of myself at a party and went, 'Oh, jeez. I have too much filler.'"

In 2016, Rinna shut down rumors that she got another breast augmentation and more lip injections on "Watch What Happens Live" (via Us). When Andy Cohen asked if she had gotten further work done on her upper lip, Rinna replied, "No, no. It goes up and down, you know that!" Regarding her breasts, Rinna said, "No, but pads are in. They're pushing them up. It's an illusion. I can do many things with this body." While Rinna evidently has a penchant for plastic surgery, the real housewife also knows her limits.
