The Biggest Sports Power Couples Of All Time

Power couples are all around us. Whether they're actors, singers, businesspeople, or a combination, there are numerous extremely successful people who end up with other extremely successful people. And we love to see it. As E! News notes, fans can't get enough of Zendaya and Tom Holland, or Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly, or Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker. But movie stars, reality personalities, and musicians aren't the only celebs in high-profile relationships.

We've amassed a list of the biggest power couples of all time — in the sports world, that is. These public figures are talented and wealthy, and they've built their personal lives with partners who are equally skilled in their fields. From history makers to ultra-wealthy fashion icons, the people on this list have it all. Though not all of them have stayed together for a happily-ever-after, these are the biggest sports power couples of all time:

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen are super wealthy

Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen are each known as one of the greatest of all time in their respective professions. Brady has been playing football for decades and has a whopping seven Super Bowl rings. Bündchen has been modeling since the '90s, and the Brazilian bombshell is one of the highest-paid and most prolific supermodels ever. With this star power comes major money — Brady and Bündchen have a combined estimated net worth of $650 million.

What may come as a surprise, though, is that the bigger earner out of the two is reportedly Bündchen, through her modeling contracts, brand deals, runway shows, ad campaigns, and magazine covers. The model also earns oodles from her various business ventures, like her lingerie line.

Although the couple may seem like they have it all, Bündchen has shared their challenges publicly. In an interview with Elle, the supermodel said of her husband's football career: "I have my concerns — this is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present. ... But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works for [them]. He needs to follow his joy, too." This confession came after Brady announced he was un-retiring to play another season in the NFL. Though his decision might've added some marital strife, it'll definitely benefit Brady's wallet.

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher are homebodies

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher met in the late 2000s and married just a couple years later. They share two children, and aside from news on their careers, the two tend to stay out of the spotlight and enjoy their garden.

Fisher is best known for his NHL career with a couple of teams, including the Ottawa Senators and the Nashville Predators. Though he's a talented hockey player, Fisher has gained much of his mainstream notoriety from his wife. Underwood catapulted to stardom when she won "American Idol" in 2005, and since then she has become one of the best-selling country music artists of all time. She's also accumulated tons of awards, including eight Grammy Awards, 16 Academy of Country Music Awards, and 17 American Music Awards.

Through all her success, Underwood's favorite place to be is at home. She opened up to Kelleigh Bannen on an Apple Music segment, saying, "I love being at home. I would literally never leave my house." The more extroverted Fisher gets her to leave, though. Underwood explained, "We balance each other out. I'm like, 'We don't need to go out all the time,' so I kind of pull him back a little bit. And then he's like, 'We need to go somewhere sometimes. Can we please interact with other people?'"

Michael Sam and Vito Cammisano made NFL history

For some couples, it's love at first sight, but that was not the case for Michael Sam and Vito Cammisano. The football player and his former fiance met at a party in college, but their first interaction almost led them to a fight, and they went another two years without speaking to each other, as they shared with Oprah.

A couple years later, after Cammisano came out, he and Sam reconnected, and in January of their third year of college, they began dating. However, due to Sam's position as a college football player, he kept his personal life very private. In an effort to maintain his reputation, Sam and Cammisano kept their relationship secret, only seeing one another at each other's homes, leading to a breakup.

Eventually, Sam and Cammisano began dating again, and Sam officially came out. In 2014, Sam was drafted to the St. Louis Rams, becoming the first openly gay player in the NFL. A photo of Sam and Cammisano kissing after the draft went viral, and the couple garnered support from former professional athletes and President Obama. "Once I became official to my teammates, I knew who I was. ...I knew that I was Michael Sam, who's a Mizzou football player who happens to be gay. I was so proud of myself and I just didn't care who knew," Sam told The New York Times of his coming out. The historic relationship didn't last forever, though, and in 2015 Sam and Cammisano split, per Us Weekly.

Ayesha and Stephen Curry work together and apart

Ayesha and Stephen Curry are both famous for their respective careers – Stephen plays for the Golden State Warriors and his wife Ayesha has a successful cooking show on the Food Network, "Ayesha's Home Kitchen." One of their ventures, however, is joint. In 2022, the Currys' show "About Last Night," a program where the couple's celebrity guests share details about their relationships, premiered on HBO Max. "It was a great opportunity to work together on a project. We wanted to do that for a while," Stephen told Collider about their show. "About Last Night" has yet to be renewed for a second season, but viewers favored the series, which has a 7.6 IMDb score.

Filming television shows isn't all Ayesha does, though. Given that she is so well-versed in the kitchen, it should come as no surprise that Ayesha and her sister-in-law Sydel Curry have a line of wines, Domaine Curry. To pay homage to their husbands, Ayesha and Sydel blended a Bordeaux called Gentlemen's Cut.

For Ayesha, blending wines and making food is all an act of joy. "I love making people happy with the food that I make, or the recipes that I develop, or the products that I put out into the world," she told InStyle. "I love spreading joy in that way. It's just a really special space to be in."

Russell Wilson and Ciara remained celibate until marriage

Russell Wilson and his wife Ciara made headlines when they began dating, but for reasons that were a little unexpected. Ciara had previously been in a relationship with rapper Future, with whom she shares a child. But when Wilson and Ciara got together, the two announced that they would be remaining celibate until they exchanged wedding vows.

Both noted that their decision was rooted in their Christian faith, although some were critical of Ciara for this choice given that she had already had a child and had released music in the late 2000s with major sexual undertones. Despite that, the singer defended her and her husband's decision. "I really believe that when you focus on a friendship, you have the opportunity to build a strong foundation for a relationship — and once you know you're really great friends and you're what we call 'equally yoked,' where you share the same values or the same outlook on life, it kind of sets the tone," she told Cosmopolitan South Africa (via E! News).

The couple's commitment to celibacy remained over the course of their engagement, and after a couple months of marriage, the two announced that they were expecting a child together. In 2020, Ciara gave birth to her third child, her second with Wilson.

Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird made ESPN history

Rumors of hookups at Olympic village have long circulated the athletic scene and the world at large. At the 2018 Winter Olympics, there were 110,000 condoms available to the athletes, per Time, and some of the participants have detailed the hookup scene at the games to Cosmopolitan. One relationship that started in the Olympic village did last beyond the games — Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird's.

Rapinoe is known for her soccer stardom, as well as her efforts for pay parity between the men's and women's leagues, and Bird is known for her basketball skill. After about four years of dating, the two got engaged. "I think I pinch myself all the time thinking how lucky we are to be in this life together," Rapinoe told People about her relationship with Bird. One of the couple's biggest public relationship moments occurred when they posed nude together for ESPN The Magazine's Body issue, becoming the first same-sex couple to do so. "I think it's important to do these things first. It's important for people to come out. Visibility is important," Rapinoe told ESPN of the cover shot.

Now the world is wondering when exactly Bird and Rapinoe will tie the knot. As Bird told The Seattle Times, "We're basically waiting to see what Megan's soccer future holds and then we'll go on that."

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade are fashion icons

If there's one thing Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade can always count on, it's to find each other in front of a mirror. Wade joked with Page Six that they spend as much time as the other checking their looks. "That's why we've got our own mirrors in our own bathrooms," he said.

But can you blame them? They are a very fashionable couple. "I like putting on clothes. I like coming on the red carpet and talking to individuals... I got to make sure I look good," Wade said about his affinity for fashion. Union is just as vocal about her own style choices. As she told People, the actor is unafraid to take sartorial risks. "You've got to release fear of judgement and fear of public failure and humiliation and shame," she shared. "What's the worst that can happen? I fail. I get up."

The fashionable couple has donned their best looks on countless red carpets, including the Met Gala's. For the 2022 event, themed In America: An Anthology of Fashion, Union and Wade arrived in coordinating Versace looks, both nods to Black history.

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez were the ultimate power couple

When Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez got together, it seemed like the two were a match made in heaven. As Lopez said during her "Saturday Night Live" monologue, "I got what every girl from the Bronx dreams of. Proposed to by a Yankee" (via People).

The two were in a relationship for several years, but given their romantic histories, many fans were skeptical about whether it would last. When Rodriguez proposed, he became Lopez's fifth fiance. The pair continually postponed their wedding date due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and after an alleged cheating scandal and multiple break-up rumors, the two finally called it quits.

Lopez and Rodriguez don't seem to have hard feelings, though. Lopez went on to marry her former fiance Ben Affleck in multiple ceremonies in 2022 after rekindling their romance the year prior, and Rodriguez told Entertainment Tonight of their former relationship, "I had five years of an incredible life and partnership."

Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods split on good terms

Not many people have achieved the status of professional golfer Tiger Woods. Widely considered the greatest golfer of all time, Woods has been golfing for decades now. And though he's known for his athletic talent, he's also known for one of the century's biggest cheating scandals. In 2009, the golfer was accused of cheating on his ex-wife Elin Nordegren with several different women, many of whom came forward sharing their sides of the story.

Woods and Nordegren divorced, and though he didn't go on to date any of his alleged mistresses, Woods did eventually find a partner in professional skier Lindsey Vonn. Vonn is best known for her work at the Olympics, where she earned one gold medal and two bronze. The two confirmed their relationship in 2013, but by 2015, the romance ended. The break-up was amicable and mutual, and when the two split, Vonn wrote on Facebook, "I will always admire and respect Tiger. He and his beautiful family will always hold a special place in my heart."

Amanda Nunes and Nina Ansaroff focus on parenting

UFC fighters Amanda Nunes and Nina Ansaroff are able to fight in the cage, but it's all love between them when they're not working. "We enjoy being around each other and we are also best friends. We go fishing together and we go training together and sometimes we go a little heavier in the sparring session and then we just smile after," Ansaroff said of their relationship on the "UFC Unfiltered" podcast (via Bleacher Report).

In 2020, the couple took their relationship a step further and had a child together. Ansaroff carried their daughter and birthed her amid the COVID-19 pandemic, per People. Parenthood is now Ansaroff's main priority. In 2022, she announced her retirement from her sport. "As a fighter, I think I've done what I wanted to do," she said in a post-fight interview, as reported by Sports Illustrated. "I want more babies. I'm stepping away to have another kid," she added.

David and Victoria Beckham have stood the test of time

David and Victoria Beckham met in the late '90s. David was at the height of his football career, and Victoria was touring the world as Posh Spice, a member of the wildly popular girl group the Spice Girls. Soon after meeting, they wed in the poshest location possible — Luttrellstown Castle near Dublin.

Not many celebrity couples have stood the test of time like David and Victoria Beckham. The two are still together after over 20 years of marriage and have four children together. In honor of their 23rd wedding anniversary, Victoria posted a photo to Instagram of herself and David laughing, captioning it, "They say he isn't funny, they say I never smile, they said it wouldn't last ... Today we celebrate 23 years being married. David you are my everything, I love you so much!!!!"

Despite allegations of him cheating in the 2000s, David continually appears to be a supportive husband. The soccer player attended his wife's show at Paris Fashion Week, gushing on Instagram, "You have worked so hard to get to this moment so enjoy it but remember it's only the beginning for you ... we are so proud of you."

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian, making money moves

Serena Williams has been dominating the tennis courts for years. In 2022, she allowed Vogue to publish her retirement announcement: "I'm here to tell you that I'm evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me. A few years ago I quietly started Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm. Soon after that, I started a family. I want to grow that family." The family includes her husband Alexis Ohanian, one of the co-founders of Reddit.

This power couple is only going to continue growing their brand and their wealth. Williams, who has an estimated $250 million net worth, was featured on Forbes' list of "America's Richest Self-Made Women," and told the outlet of her desire to be involved in Serena Ventures, "I want to be in the infrastructure. I want to be the brand, instead of just being the face."

Ohanian has his own venture capital firm, too. The Reddit co-founder left the website in 2020 to start 776, and it's done remarkably well. "After just one year, 776 now has over $750M AUM and we're getting closer to manifesting the vision we debuted in Forbes: a tech startup that deploys venture capital; an investor community that reflects our country (50% women and 15% Black & indigenous people); and a focus on supporting our founders and building a high-performing team in intentional ways," Ohanian stated on his website. Williams and Ohanian are a grand slam in the venture capital world.

Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra are gifted athletes

File Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra under athletically gifted couples. The two are both known for their physical prowess and have the credentials to show it. Hamm is an Olympic gold medalist who has won the world over with her soccer talents, and Garciaparra is a former MLB star. The soccer star founded the Mia Hamm Foundation in 1999 to benefit young female athletes and to raise awareness and funds for cord blood and bone marrow transplants.

In 2004, Garciaparra played shortstop for the Boston Red Sox. 2004 was a major year for the Red Sox because in October they broke the Curse of the Bambino, a years-long dry spell of never winning a World Series championship because, as legend has it, Boston traded superstar Babe Ruth to the Yankees. Boston finally won the World Series, but unfortunately, Garciaparra was traded before October and did not get to share the fanfare, celebration, or accolades with the rest of his former teammates.

In 2020, the former Boston player was privately acknowledged by the Red Sox and was given a ring to commemorate his contribution. "My whole time in Boston I gave everything I could, everything I knew I was about, on and off the field," he told the Associated Press (via ESPN) of his efforts for the team.

Kate Upton and Justin Verlander are outstanding in their fields

Kate Upton and Justin Verlander are a sports power couple akin to Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen. Upton is famous for her modeling work, while Verlander is best known for his unparalleled pitching ability.

The Houston Astro won the coveted Cy Young Award, an honor given by the Baseball Writers' Association of America each year to the best pitcher in both the American and National Leagues, in 2011, and his second in 2019. Verlander's career was interrupted in 2020 when he skipped two seasons to undergo Tommy John Surgery, an enormous medical undertaking for an athlete as the surgery essentially reconstructs the arm. Though many athletes' careers end after this surgery, Verlander is a rarity whose rebound season was one of his best on record.

There aren't nearly as many ways to measure the skill of a model as there are a baseball player, but it's safe to say Upton is as skilled a model as Verlander is a pitcher. Although she's not a professional athlete like her husband, she has been featured in Sports Illustrated – the swimsuit edition, that is. Upton has graced the cover multiple times, her third in 2017. She stays involved with her husband's career, even commenting on baseball games via Twitter. During the 2021 World Series, the model was scrutinized for sharing her opinion on a play. "...it's laughable that men feel they can still have ownership over a woman's opinion. You cannot. Whether it's sports, anything," she told Editorialist.

Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger became parents

Soccer stars Ashlyn Harrison and Ali Krieger haven't always been able to broadcast their relationship, but in 2019 they went public and then got married. "For so long, there was an elephant on our back or in the room, and it was like, this is so dumb. We're wasting so much of our life living a lie," Harris shared on the "Snacks with Lynn & Sam" podcast, about their decision to make their relationship public.

In 2021, Harris and Krieger's life together hit another milestone when they adopted their first child, a daughter name Sloane Phillips Krieger-Harris. Then in 2022, they adopted a son, Ocean Maeve Krieger-Harris. The couple opened up to "Good Morning America" about their journey to parenthood. "Our journey to becoming new moms and new parents started when COVID hit. ... The Olympics were postponed and it really stripped away a lot of layers for Ali and I ... We ended up matching in about three weeks, so our life changed very quickly and unexpectedly," Harris said about the adoption of their daughter.

In 2022, Krieger and Harris moved to the New York City area to join the Gotham FC team. "I think as a family, we're really growing and just living in such a beautiful little community, and we feel really safe there," Krieger told NBC Sports of her and Harris' move.

Scottie Pippen and Larsa Pippen have moved on

Though they're not together anymore, while they were married, Scottie Pippen and Larsa Pippen were a major power couple in the sports world. Scottie is best known for playing for the Chicago Bulls in the '90s, and is now a Hall of Famer.

Aside from being Scottie's wife, Larsa is well known for modeling. She rose to further prominence in the zeitgeist when she joined the cast of "The Real Housewives of Miami," and has since documented her life again on the reboot that moved from Bravo to Peacock. Larsa has opened up about her and Scottie's divorce on the reality show, saying, "If he doesn't get his way, he punishes me," as reported by People. Larsa noted that she believed Scottie was upset because she wanted him to sell their Miami home and because she had been dating since their split. Larsa dated Minnesota Timberwolves player Malik Beasley in early 2021, but the two parted ways in a matter of months.

Scottie has allegedly entered a new relationship. Per the Daily Mail, he was grocery shopping with a "mystery woman" in September 2022, while Larsa has reportedly been dating Scottie's former teammate Michael Jordan's son Marcus Jordan. Oh, the tangled webs we weave.

Shawn Johnson and Andrew East are TikTok famous

Shawn Johnson East has been in the public eye since she was a young girl. At 16 years old, the gymnast traveled to Beijing to represent the United States women's national artistic gymnastics team. While there, she earned a gold medal for her work on the balance beam, and three silvers for her other entries.

Shawn has since retired from gymnastics, but she does relive her glory days by accepting challenges on TikTok imposed by her husband, professional football player Andrew East. The former Eagles player often challenges her to physical competitions on the social media platform, several of which she has completed while pregnant. Although her skill isn't quite what it was when she was an Olympic gymnast, Shawn's physicality is still quite impressive. She has over 35 million likes on her profile.

In 2021, the former gymnast pushed herself physically again by competing in a Spartan race shortly after giving birth. As Shawn told Shape, "I wanted to humble myself and be really sore and do something I couldn't do for nine months." How does the mother of two have time to train for such intense events? As she shared with the magazine, "My husband and I have a rule in our household, that we each get an hour a day. Whether that's a workout or just sleep or to do whatever." Clearly, the rule has paid off for the couple.
