Ellen DeGeneres Surprises Audience Members With $1 Million Giveaway

The daytime talk show host just shared some big money with her audience.

On Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, Ellen DeGeneres revealed that everyone in her audience that day had helped her complete "one million acts of good," a campaign she'd launched with Cheerios to help spread kindness. And, as a way to thank everyone who participated — and to celebrate her 60th birthday — DeGeneres and Cheerios decided to surprise them all with a gift: $1 million, to be split amongst them equally.

"I want to celebrate this amazing accomplishment and the incredible people in my audience today ... you have something in common. This audience is full of people who are making a difference in the world by sharing good," said DeGeneres, before introducing a few of the people in her audience who've made incredible sacrifices to help others this past year.

"Thanks to every single person in this audience, it is filled with goodness, and we have reached one million acts of good because of all of you. So I want to do something that we've never done before. This is big," DeGeneres told the crowd, directing their attention to a giant Cheerios box that was pulled onto the stage.

DeGeneres then told audience members that, if they had a box of Cheerios under their seat, she was going to give them a special gift. And, of course, every single person there had a box of their own.

"You're all gonna share this gift. It's the biggest gift I have ever given anybody ever, and I hope you continue to pay it forward and share all the good," DeGeneres said, hyping up the crowd. "Hold onto your Cheerios because all of you are splitting $1 million."

Understandably, the audience went wild.
