Seth Meyers Reveals Wife Gave Birth To Second Child In Apartment Lobby

Seth Meyers just welcomed a new member of his family into the world!

On Monday, April 9, 2018, the Late Night host shared with his audience that his wife, Alexi Ashe, had given birth to their second child — a baby boy they named Axel Strahl Meyers — and it was quite the event. Meyers said that Ashe had gone into labor on Sunday night, but it was apparently unexpected.

Describing the day as a "totally normal Sunday," Meyers said that he and his wife enjoyed brunch and walked in the park. Then, when he was feeding their 2-year-old son, Ashe Olsen Meyers, lunch, his mother-in-law shouted to him that they needed to take his pregnant wife to the hospital immediately.

After his sister-in-law came over to babysit their toddler, Meyers, his wife, his mother-in-law, and their doula went into the elevator of their apartment building. "My wife's in an intense amount of pain," Meyers recalled. "It seems like now it's just one long contraction."

While they waited in the lobby for their Uber to arrive, Meyers' wife realized that she wasn't going to make it to the hospital. "My wife just says, 'I can't get in the car. I'm going to have the baby right now. The baby is coming.' I'm just trying to calm her down," the former Saturday Night Live star recounted. "I'm like, 'Look, no,' because I've been through exactly one birth. I'm like, 'This happens all the time. ... Trust me.'"

But Meyers' wife knew better. He told his audience, "My wife is saying, 'The baby is coming! The baby is out!" Joking that his wife "looked like someone who was hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants," he said that they undressed her and discovered that "the head of the baby was out!"

Meyers said, "I called 911, and over the course of a minute conversation, I said, 'We're about to have a baby! We're having a baby! We had a baby." He noted, "I went from someone calling in about an emergency to just sharing good news with a stranger. Like, 'Yeah, it's a boy!'"

Meyers revealed that the New York Fire Department and the New York Police Department arrived soon after his son's delivery and that one of the firemen cut the baby's umbilical cord. Ashe and their newborn were then transported to the hospital.

Fortunately, mom and baby are doing just fine. For more details about Meyers' eventful Sunday, watch the video above.
