The 2018 ACM Awards Red Carpet Ranked Best To Worst

The 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards, aka the ACM Awards, kicked off Sunday, April 15, 2018 with some major fashion moments. Before the big country music awards show even started, stars walked the red carpet — or, rather, the blue carpet — showing off their styles to adoring photographers who were eager to capture the celebrities' designer duds. And, as could be expected, all the major country music artists arrived to show off their fashion prowess, from the night's host Reba McEntire to Miranda Lambert to Jennifer Nettles. Unfortunately, while some stars stunned with their wardrobe choices, others donned outfits that left more to be desired ... a lot more.

Keep reading to find out which celebrities rocked the red carpet, earning the title of one of the night's best dressed attendees, and which A-listers totally failed to impress with their award show ensembles. Warning: There are some bold choices below.

Miranda Lambert

No one knows country music — and thus, country music star style — quite as well as Miranda Lambert. The "The House That Built Me" singer has proved time and time again that she's a force to be reckoned with when it comes to red carpet style, and at the 2018 ACM Awards, she did not disappoint. Lambert wore a red Georges Chakra gown featuring striped cut-outs on its sequined bodice and a long, flowing skirt (via E! News). Pairing the look with an assortment of rings, a pair of simple dangling earrings, and a pink clutch, Lambert styled her hair down in loose waves, allowing her dress do all the statement-making for her.

Lambert's appearance at the ACM Awards marked her very first public event since she split with longtime boyfriend Anderson East. Considering how drop-dead gorgeous Lambert looked, we'd bet that East was kicking himself for ever letting her go after seeing her red carpet style. Blake Shelton, too.

Lauren Alaina

Lauren Alaina dressed to impress at the ACM Awards. Wearing a half-sleeved black gown, the "Road Less Traveled" singer added some much-needed edge to the blue carpet. The sheer dress featured gorgeous blue and gold floral embellishments, as well as an intriguing black pattern and spiky gold accents on its shoulders. Alaina, who arrived with boyfriend Alex Hopkins, further added to her award show look with minimal accessories, including a simple black clutch, a pair of black stone earrings, and a ring. Letting her bold dress take centerstage, the new female vocalist of the year winner wore her long blonde hair up in a high ponytail and rocked a subtle smokey eye and a nude lip.

Given her ear-to-ear smile, we'd say that Alaina was really feeling her outfit. Or maybe Alaina was just so happy with all of her accomplishments in the past year that led her to attending the 2018 ACM Awards — something that she talked about just days before the award show. "I'm just really proud," she told People about her previously announced win. "It's been a really good year and that was kind of the bow on top of the present.

Carly Pearce

While some celebrities opted for bold color at the 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards, singer Carly Pearce went in a totally different direction. Rather than rock a colorful outfit, Pearce instead donned a white THEIA Couture gown. While the dress definitely looks like a potential bridal gown, it's surprisingly the perfect choice for Pearce's arrival at the ACMs.

The gorgeous dress boasts sweet, sheer cap sleeves and a keyhole cutout — not to mention stunning floral embellishments from top to bottom. Given how busy the gown is, Pearce made the right call by keeping accessories to a minimum, opting to wear a simple yet glitzy pair of earrings, a tennis bracelet, and rings. The "Every Little Thing" country crooner finished off her winning look by pulling back her hair into a loose updo and throwing on a pink lip — adding just the punch of color she needed.

Reba McEntire

Reba McEntire arrived at the 2018 ACM Awards looking every bit of the country music queen that she is. Like Carly Pearce, McEntire chose to wear wedding white to the awards show, but she put her own spin on the style. Rather than looking ready to get hitched, the "Fancy" singer looked ready to start the party. Her deep V-cut gown featured both sparkles and fringe detailing, and, while that might have proved too much on some women, the gown appeared perfectly country on McEntire — fitting given that she was hosting one of country's biggest nights of the year.

McEntire, who'd expressed her desire to keep the awards show "fun" to Rolling Stone days before the big event, added to her red carpet look by donning crystal drop earrings and a glitzy bracelet. As for her hair, McEntire wore her iconic red locks down in voluminous waves. And, if you thought that McEntire looked especially comfortable ahead of the show, there's a good reason for that — not only has she been in the business for decades, but she also has a residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, so she's been spending lots of time in the area.

Nicole Kidman

Though she may be a Hollywood star, appearing in the popular HBO series Big Littles Lies and hit movies such as Eyes Wide Shut (1999) and The Beguiled (2017), Nicole Kidman arrived at the 2018 ACM Awards in style. Walking the carpet with her country music icon husband, Keith Urban, Kidman shined in a long-sleeved gold Michael Kors number (via E! News). Despite the gown's high neck and billowy sleeves, it fit Kidman like a glove, highlighting her gorgeous shape. But what really won us over was the back of Kidman's dress — or, rather, the lack thereof. When the actress turned around for photographers, she shocked everyone with the gown's oval cutout design, which revealed her toned build.

While Urban may have been the one being honored as one of the night's nominees for entertainer of the year, he clearly didn't mind sharing the spotlight with his beautiful wife, as he was caught looking on at Kidman in obvious admiration while she posed for the cameras.

Lindsey Vonn

Like Nicole Kidman, Lindsey Vonn was one of the night's many attendees that's not directly involved in country music — or even indirectly involved, considering Vonn is an Olympic skier and not a country music crooner. Still, she wowed at the awards show, donning a bright yellow Christian Siriano gown with a full tulle skirt, reminiscent of the dress Belle wears in Beauty and the Beast. Compared to the other dresses seen throughout the night, Vonn's gown was refreshing, boasting a bold color free of any and all embellishments.

But while we love the color and shape of Vonn's dress — and even its turtleneck — we can't help but feel that there's something missing, though we can't quite put our finger on it. Maybe if Vonn, who secretly wore white sneakers underneath her dress, let her hair down out of that tight top bun the whole ensemble would've seemed more complete. Still, we give Vonn top marks for her ACM Awards look.

Jennifer Nettles

Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles arrived at the 2018 ACM Awards wearing a maroon J. Mendel gown that looked, um, interesting. While we loved the color on the country music star, which Nettles also rocked with matching stud earrings and eye makeup, we're not huge fans of the dress' design. The stripey cut-outs on the gown created a pattern similar to that of the veins of a leaf — but, unfortunately, not in a cool, natural way. The high neck and the long sleeves, along with the velvety material, also seemed like the wrong choice to wear to an event in Las Vegas in the middle of April (Wasn't Nettles warm?) Plus, the bizarre accent around the dress' waist was just plain awkward.

One highlight of Nettles' look of the night, however, was her hair. Parted in the middle, Nettles' gorgeous blonde locks were styled straight, creating a sleek, modern look that anyone could appreciate.

Bebe Rexha

Bebe Rexha stood out among the crowd of country music superstars at the 2018 ACM Awards, but not for a good reason. Her gown just didn't make sense for the event. Maybe she was just trying to debut a unique design on the blue carpet, or maybe Rexha, a popular pop music singer, just didn't know how to dress for a night mingling with the top dogs of the country music scene. After all, she was only there to perform "Meant to Be" with Florida Georgia Line. Whatever the case, Rexha's outfit was pretty out there.

Featuring a 3D collar-like embellishment and veiny-looking detailing on its sleeves, Rexha's dress was a strange choice. We felt the urge to rip away the gown's collar and sleeves, so she could rock a simple black strapless dress instead. Rexha, whose hair and makeup looked spot-on, would have surely looked worlds better.

Maren Morris

Maren Morris might be winning at life right now, but she's not going to be winning any fashion awards anytime soon. Like her November 2017 designer duds at the Country Music Awards, Morris' ACM Awards gown was a disappointment. While the bunchy midsection and slanted hemline were all wrong, the worst part of the strapless Christian Siriano dress was its color — mostly because we couldn't even tell what color it really was. The shimmering chameleon gown appeared to be both green and purple — making it look more like something Disney's Little Mermaid would have in her closet rather than a look put together by a celebrity and her stylist.

Could it be that Morris' fashion judgement was clouded from getting hitched to her love, Ryan Hurd, and soaking in her newly married status on a romantic honeymoon in Bora Bora? Maybe. Let's just hope she gets it right at the next awards show.

Eve

Poor Eve. The rapper and The Talk co-host missed the mark big time at the 2018 ACM Awards, earning the title of worst dressed at the big country music event. Eve, whose full name is Eve Jeffers-Cooper, wore a baby pink gown on the red carpet, and, while the color looked great with her complexion, everything else about the dress was just all wrong. The gown featured ruffles around its collar and its off-the-shoulder sleeves, as well as button detailing throughout. And, unfortunately, Eve's large hoop earrings and white closed-toe heels did nothing to help the look.

The dress couldn't even be saved with its high slit, which showed off Eve's killer legs — or, rather, leg. While a revealing leggy look can often add some much-needed sex appeal to a red carpet style, it looked all wrong considering the otherwise sweetness of this pink gown.

Better luck next time, Eve.
