Avril Lavigne To Release 'Really Powerful' Album In 2018

Avril Lavigne is getting ready to make her big musical comeback.

The "Complicated" singer spoke with E! News at the 25th annual Race To Erase MS Gala and revealed some details about her upcoming fifth major studio album. "It's a really powerful record," Lavigne said at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Friday, April 20, 2018. "I've been working on this for three years. I can actually say this time I'm going to be done with this album in two weeks and I will put it out this year."

The 33-year-old, whose red carpet appearance marked her first in two years, continued, "I've been writing songs that are really just powerful and true and honest and sincere and I think people will really be able to relate to it." She went on, "I've gone through a lot of personal stuff in the past two years and so I've really drawn from that. I mean, I always do but this album is so different ... I am producing, too, the songs. It's more of a vocal record and just like, hearing the lyrics and really hearing the emotion in the vocal. It's very piano-driven, too."

Lavigne has largely been M.I.A. in recent years due, in part, to her battle with Lyme disease. She'd previously shared news of her diagnosis in an exclusive with People in 2015. Recalling how she'd felt, the singer revealed that she was often lethargic and lightheaded, noting that she "bedridden for five months."

She recalled, "I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move. I thought I was dying."

Fortunately, Lavigne had her mother and her then-husband Nickelback's Chad Kroeger to help care for her (Lavigne and Kroeger called it quits in September 2015).

Lavigne, who's teased her new music on social media, told E! News, "I know my fans have been like waiting for a long time and some of them are unhappy. They're like, 'OK, what is going on with this album?'" She added, "But trust me, I'm doing everything I can and I just want it to be ready and everything to be perfect and lot of, like, care has gone into this. All the waiting and the hard work on my end will pay off, I promise."
