Shania Twain's Friendship With Harry Styles Started Before His Career Took Off
There have been plenty of unlikely friendship duos in Hollywood that have shocked many, including Shania Twain and Harry Styles. Although they are both well-known musicians, it seemed rare that the two would cross paths. For one, they are in different genres of music, and two, Twain is older than Styles. However, lucky for us, the pair have become close friends, and Twain even made a surprise appearance during Styles' set at Coachella.
In 2022, the crowd went absolutely wild when the "Adore You" singer introduced Twain onstage during his headlining Coachella set, as noted by Vulture. He addressed the audience and said, "I have to tell you in the car, with my mother as a child, this lady taught me to sing. She also taught me that men are trash." When Twain joined Styles onstage, they performed her smash hit, "Man! I Feel Like a Woman," with their performance shining just as bright as Styles' outfit. Twain later tweeted her appreciation to the Grammy winner for bringing her out. She said, "Music icon. Fashion icon. And true friend. I am honored and thrilled to have joined @Harry_Styles onstage for his @coachella debut," she continued, "What a magical moment!! And I mean c'mon... WHAT A SHOW. I'm a huge fan! Grateful we got to create this memory together – Thank you Harry."
Although Coachella was the first time many fans saw Styles and Twain interact, their friendship has actually been going on for quite some time.
Harry Styles asked Shania Twain for a birthday shoutout
While Coachella may have brought Harry Styles and Shania Twain's friendship to the public eye, the two have been close friends for a long time. In fact, Twain once shared with Access Hollywood the juicy details of how she and Styles became friends long before his career took off.
Now, the "Late Night Talking" singer did have a presence in the music industry thanks to him being in the famous boyband One Direction. However, when he went solo, it was as if he had to start all over again. But, there has always been one person in his corner, and that has been the "From This Moment On" singer. She revealed that the first time they met was when she attended his show, long before he became the musician we know today. She said, "He wasn't the Harry Styles he is now...he was well on his way." At that show, the two musicians exchanged phone numbers, and it wasn't long before Styles reached out to Twain.
The country singer shared, "...he [Harry] calls me one day and says, 'Would you call my mother for her birthday?' and I think he wanted me to sing her something on the phone..and so I did that." Ever since then, the two have continued to remain close friends and can't seem to stop talking about one another.
Shania Twain and Harry Styles adore one another
It's no secret that Shania Twain and Harry Styles have a close bond with one another. The two have been vocal about their friendship on multiple occasions and have shared how much they value one another.
Ahead of his Victoria's Secret Fashion Show performance in 2017, Styles revealed that the country singer is a huge source of inspiration for him. He told Entertainment Tonight, "I think both music and fashion, [my] main influence was probably Shania Twain. Yeah, I think she's amazing." Not many would have thought that Twain would be an inspiration for Styles, but seeing their careers and fashion side by side and it starts to make sense. The love isn't one-sided, as Twain has also shared her adoration for Styles and his talent.
In 2023, Twain released a cover of Styles' hit song, "Falling," as noted by Stereogum. She shared, "I just fell in love with 'Falling.' I love Harry Styles anyway and his version of the song really moved me and I wanted to try it on." Twain's cover has only fueled the desire for a collaboration between her and Styles. The possibility of the two working together has been hinted at by the "You're Still The One" singer in the past, but there has been no official announcement yet. While we wait along with the rest of the world, we can enjoy Twain's rendition of Styles' song and remain fascinated by their friendship.
