Miranda Lambert Recalls Her Reaction To First Question About Gwen Stefani

Miranda Lambert was not happy when a reporter asked her about ex Blake Shelton's lady love Gwen Stefani.

In an interview with HITs Daily Double published on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, Lambert opened up about how she coped following her split from Shelton in 2015. After working through her emotions on her 2016 record The Weight of These Wings, the country singer had told Sony Music Nashville chief Randy Goodman and her manager Marion Kraft that she was not going to be speaking with the press until after she dropped her album.

"It was going to be hell, and I'd already been through hell," Lambert said, explaining her media absence around the time of her record's release. "It was hell putting it on paper, putting my words on paper. So I didn't want to rehash. I'd finally gotten to a place where I wasn't sad anymore. All the sad moments were there, all the truths were right in those songs. All you had to do was listen. I didn't need to say anything."

After her new music was shared with the world, Lambert was ready to talk to the media — or, at least, she thought she was. "When the music was out, people had listened, I got on the phone for the first interview. First question was, 'How do you feel about Gwen?'" she recalled. "I hung up. I told Marion, I just can't do this."

As Us Weekly previously reported, Lambert's ex-husband and his fellow The Voice coach Gwen Stefani went public with their relationship in November 2015, just four months after Lambert and Shelton called it quits on their four-year marriage. Lambert later moved on with musician Anderson East, but the two eventually broke up in April 2018 after two years together.

Speaking with HITS Daily Double, Lambert noted, "What was in the music was real, and I wanted people to get it from that. Take from it what they would. Then if I needed to talk, I would. But I haven't really. Until now."
