TLC Star John-David Duggar And Girlfriend Abbie Burnett Are Engaged

Counting On's John-David Duggar has proposed to girlfriend Abbie Burnett — and she said yes!

On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, the Duggar family revealed the big news on their blog, writing, "We are thrilled to announce the engagement of John-David and Abbie! They are a wonderful match and make a beautiful couple!" The family continued, "Abbie is a lovely young woman, full of tenderness and compassion. She has a deep love for the Lord and we are so delighted that John-David has asked her to be his wife! We love weddings in this family and can't wait for this next one!"

Duggar and Burnett also announced their engagement to their fans via a video distributed by TLC, the network behind Counting On and 19 Kids and Counting. "So, I have some news," Duggar, standing beside a giggling Burnett, began. Asking if viewers "wanna see it," he then pulled up Burnett's left hand for the camera to show off her brand new engagement ring.

"It's official," he shared. "We are engaged!"

Duggar, the second oldest son of the Duggar family and twin to sister Jana, revealed that he and his future bride had been "ready for this step for a little while," but he had some items on his to-do list to care of first. "I had a lot of things I wanted to get done to make it really special," the 28-year-old said. "I don't know if I succeeded or not, but it was a lot of things." Don't worry, Duggar family fans — Burnett confirmed that he indeed succeeded in pulling off a memorable proposal.

She added, "We are looking forward to planning a wedding so we can get married."

According to photos shared in the TLC video, Duggar popped the question in what appears to be an airplane hanger, getting on bended knee on a heart-shaped bed of red roses. Behind the pair was a marquee that read, "Abbie will you marry me?"

In late June 2018, TLC posted on its site that Duggar and Burnett had entered a courtship. "We fell in love very quickly," Duggar told the network at the time, "and it's been a wonderful journey thus far!"

Duggar also shared that the two had known about one another for years before they finally actually met only a few months ago, when he traveled to her home state of Oklahoma for a church event, as noted by E! News. That's when the pair "really connected," according to Burnett herself.

Duggar and Burnett have since posted sweet photos of themselves on their joint Instagram page, which, at the time of this writing, boasts 116,000 followers. "So, I reconsidered the whole 'bachelor 'til the rapture' thing," Duggar wrote in a post published the same day as news of his courtship with Burnett was announced to the public.

While Duggar and Burnett's engagement is certainly big news, it's not the only headline-making milestone being celebrated by the Duggar family. As Nicki Swift previously reported, Duggar's sister Jinger gave birth to her first child on July 19, 2018, welcoming a baby girl into the world. Jinger, 24, and her 30-year-old husband, Jeremy Vuolo, named their daughter Felicity Nicole Vuolo.

"It's been so incredible," Jinger told Us Weekly about her first few days with baby Felicity. "We can't stop staring at her adorable little face!"

Jinger and John-David Duggar's 23-year-old brother Joseph also recently welcomed his first child with his wife, Kendra. The couple delivered their son, baby Garrett David Duggar, on June 8.

We're sure that, given the Duggar family's track record for quickly expanding their families, John-David Duggar and Abbie Burnett won't waste any time in growing their family after tying the knot. But for now, they just have to focus on wedding planning!

Congratulations to Duggar and Burnett on their engagement! The new season of their TLC show Counting On premieres on July 30, 2018.
