Joe Alwyn Still Makes Money From Taylor Swift Even After Their Split
Taylor Swift's lyrics, "How you took the money and your dignity and got the hell out," couldn't be more true for her ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn — at least the money part. Alwyn has built a pretty successful acting career, but it doesn't hurt that he is making extra bucks on the side, thanks to his previous collaborations with Swift.
In the past, Swift has collaborated with her exes. From singing background vocals on John Mayer's track, "Half of My Heart," to singing on and co-writing Calvin Harris' track, "This Is What You Came For," per Showbiz Cheatsheet. Seeing as Swift and Alwyn were together for nearly six years, Swifties knew it was only a matter of time before they would collaborate on something, and they were right! When Swift released her eighth studio album, "Folklore," fans discovered something very interesting. According to J-14, fans noticed that one William Bowery was credited with co-writing some of the songs off the album, including "Betty" and "Exile." Well, Swifties deep-dove into this name and researched William Bowery on Google, but what would you know: Nothing popped up.
Turns out, "William Bowery" was a pseudonym for Alwyn. If you thought fans were simply reading too far into things, well, never underestimate the power of Swifties, because they turned out to be right, per ET Canada. Even though the two parted ways, Alwyn will always be attached to Swift thanks to his collaborations with the musician. And he just so happens to be making a pretty penny from them, too.
Joe Alwyn will make money off Taylor Swift's co-writing credit
Taylor Swift was always private about her relationship with actor Joe Alwyn. But one thing Swift has been open about with fans is that Alwyn helped co-write some of her songs, per ET Canada. Swift shared in her Disney+ special, "I came in and I was like, 'Hey, this could be really weird, and we could hate this, [but] because we're in quarantine and there's nothing else going on, could we just try to see what it's like if we write this song together?'" Well, the two not only wrote songs for "Folklore," but ended up writing several more for her albums "Evermore" and "Midnights," per J-14, including tracks like "Champagne Problems," "Evermore," and "Sweet Nothing."
One thing about Swift is that anything she touches turns to gold. Her net worth alone is $400 million, per Parade. So, anyone who works with the Grammy-winning musician is bound to make some nice cash, including her ex-boyfriend. Even though the two have split, "The Favourite" actor will continue to make money from his work with Swift, per The Sun. A source shared, "Joe will be raking in a fortune from these songs for years ... He will easily be making a five-figure sum every year from his contributions. Writing six songs for albums as big as Taylor's guarantees a healthy income stream for life."
Talk about a "Gold Rush."
Taylor Swift has moved on from Joe Alwyn
Taylor Swift doesn't seem too worried about her ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, making some money off her. Why would she? She's worth a lot more than what he'll be making from his co-writing credits. Still, it probably helps that she is currently distracted by a new beau.
Swift has reportedly found a new "London Boy" and moved on with The 1975's Matty Healy, per The Sun. This news comes just a month after Swift and Alwyn split after nearly six years together. Ouch! To make things worse for Alwyn, things between the Grammy-winning musician and Healy are reportedly moving quickly. A source told The Sun, "She and Matty are madly in love. It's super-early days, but it feels right. They first dated, very briefly, almost ten years ago but timings just didn't work out." Unlike Swift and Alwyn, Healy and the "Blank Space" singer have been public about their relationship. Since they sparked relationship rumors in May 2023, Healy has been to four of Swift's Eras Tour shows, per Seventeen.
Many exes would be upset about their former significant other moving on so quickly, as is "The Favourite" actor, reportedly. According to the Daily Mail, Alwyn has been "distraught and slighted" over Swift's new romance with Healy. The checks he's getting from his co-writing credits could serve as a stinging reminder of the good times the two used to have, but they could just as easily be a silver lining for Alwyn.
